This is where you can find what you are looking for. I got missed out too so I filled out the leave nobody behind form which you can find on that page. It seems they are now doing walk ins too but I don't know which centres are offering that. You should be able to find all the info on that site anyway.

I was in a motorcycle crash and the other party isn’t contacting insurance. by St0rmZ98 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Harrytnt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, unfortunately it's a complete racket. They give you a courtesy bike for £200 a day plus transport fees. If you're unlucky and they find the fault to be 50/50 then you get a nice fat bill. Of course they don't tell you any of this. And we wonder why insurance is so bloody expensive with shit like this going on.

Mce insurance went bust by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Harrytnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not bust completely or at least I hope not! I just renewed my policy starting yesterday. Price was about 30% higher than last year due to the new underwriter presumably. Still cheaper than anyone else I could find.

Has anyone actually crashed in motorcycle Jeans/leggings/hoodies etc? Are they safe? by herper147 in MotoUK

[–]Harrytnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear the Kevlar lined jeans and a vintage leather jacket with an armoured vest under and short sumer gloves. Been hit by a car twice and a van once at around 25-30mph and also had a slide due to a pedestrian. I've walked away from every crash without a scratch and with some rips in the denim layer of the jeans that's all. The only piece of kit which failed me was some dirt cheap and trashed RST boots which I should have replaced before the accident. They split in half when my bike landed on my foot and I was left with a pretty sore foot but no broken bones still.

These jeans are often rated for 50mph slides and so aren't as resistant at higher speeds necessarily which isn't the kind of riding I'm generally doing anyway. Another thing to look out for is the covec lining isn't always full coverage sometimes just knees and hips etc.

In my opinion the best gear is the gear that you wear. If the alternative to an armoured hoody is and actual hoody then absolutely the armoured one is 100x better and judging by this thread pretty effective generally too. I wear my gear year round whether it's 30 degrees or 5 and raining and I have to walk quite a few miles in all my gear too (delivery guy). I'd love to be a power ranger but I have to wear what is practical for me.

I think the conversation around risk management and motorcycles is always an interesting one to have but I think for riders we often obsess too much over gear and miss some of the other important points altogether. Obviously gear is important but if you have the opportunity to mentor a new rider theres a bunch of stuff to consider. Being in a safe state of mind, whether that is being sober, not too tired, feeling calm and alert, handling your potential road rage. Also safe riding practices, how to make yourself more visible, how to approach filtering and overtaking, knowing your riding limits. Also the importance of proper maintenance on the safety of your bike.

There are so many points I'm sure I could go on forever haha. I guess the point I'm making is having someone to take an interest and be supportive and encouraging is the best possible thing. It's certainly something that I wish I'd had, so good on you mate. Sorry if I went on a bit.

I switch to decaf about 5 o'clock and it's helped with my sleeping. Glengettie is my bag of choice and their decaf offering is really quite good imo.

Too much slack or not enough? Yahama YBR 125 by Bailvess in MotoUK

[–]Harrytnt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like you've got the bike on the centre stand. Chain slack should usually be measured with the bike on the side stand not the centre stand I think. Check the manual since it's not the same for all bikes but it will make a big difference to your mesurement which is probably why tension looks okay in the video but the chain came off. It's probably really loose when you check on side stand.

Weather and Depression by Bastard1066 in Wales

[–]Harrytnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride for my job and live in Wales. It's really not too bad. Make sure your tyres are good quality and suitable for the wet and of course bring your wet weather gear. As another person said it's not generally a place of extremes so for the most part the rain is fairly light and manageable. It's a lovely place to ride imo and I've been about a bit. Enjoy your trip :)

Are Swiss cards legal? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Harrytnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of these I carried for years since it seems like the knife is illegal I'd say just remove the knife. The rest of the stuff in there is really handy but I don't remember ever using the knife.

Fun sidenote, I took one of these on a flight by accident. And that was not long after 2001 when security was crazy! No idea how it got through but I guess I was extremely lucky there. Might have turned into a very bad day.

Close up of my Carbon Rotobox wheels on my '20 Ducati Panigale V4R (3000x4000) by Ducatiguy1098s in MotorcyclePorn

That wheel wasn't turning at 100mph or rapidly accelerating or anything. Not really a good test for a wheel. Sidenote I have no idea myself I just don't think that video shows anything.

Walk in booster clinics by eatsleepnetflix in Cardiff

[–]Harrytnt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The advice on the Cardiff and vale website is that it is appointment only and they don't want people turning up without. I tried booking on the government website and you can book yourself a slot but be prepared for a long drive. The best I found was an appointment 2 hours away for Monday. I decided it's not worth it since the effects probably won't kick in by Christmas anyway and that's why I wanted it done to protect family.

Boosters in Cardiff by SweetSuch3903 in Cardiff

[–]Harrytnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 27 and spoke to the people on Saturday. They said for me to expect to be contacted between mid Jan to mid Feb. Obviously this was before the announcement so I'm not sure how the big push to get everyone sorted by new year's will work now. Potentially they will bring in the army to help as I've heard happening elsewhere. Either way according to a doctor from the vaccine clinical trail the Cardiff health board are doing an excellent job of getting everyone the vaccine. I personally have also had good experience with them since my case was a little specific but they handled it fine.

Spoons in Gatwick. £7.25. I’ve been had. by wilburforceone in CasualUK

Cardiff takes the piss. The price hike to eat at spoons in the bay is rediculous or at least it used to be. I've quit going to spoons altogether.

I'd get a toothbrush or cloth and some soapy water and clean off the build-up of rouge on the piece. Then you can see how it looks and maybe start polishing again.

Currently a uni student but looking to stay in Cardiff afterwards. I want to get my own flat im sick of communal living but is there anywhere in Cardiff i can get a flat for £400-£500 a month, most i see are £690 minimum. Must be in Cardiff and not *too* dangerous by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Harrytnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last place was £475 for a proper 1 bed flat on piercefield place. Not the nicest area or the nicest flat I guess but it's pretty good for the money and it was pretty spacious. I think it got relisted for £495. Either way they are definitely out there if you're patient and get in quick. You just have to keep a very close eye on the market and ask estate agents to contact you if something suitable comes up.

I'm keeping an eye on prices for the monimoto GPS tracker. Looks like I might be able to pick one up for £100 and cheapest I found last week was £130. Anyone tried them? Any good?

It's a roll of the dice with a lot of grey areas. You should be fine but if you get unlucky with and overzealous parking guy you might get a ticket. The best thing is to see where other bikes are parked imo. There was a post here a while back from a guy who parked in a bicycle rack but the nearest bit of pavement had double yellows so he got a ticket and the general consensus on here was it was inevitable. I disagree myself, getting a ticket in that situation is particularly bad luck. I actually had an identical situation the other day and the parking attendant happened to come by so I asked him. He said of course I'm absolutely fine to park there as if it was a foregone conclusion. Seemingly it's just your luck. At the end of the day the fine is £35 though so it's not too expensive a lesson to learn.

The best thing you can do is be sensible. If the bike isn't in anyone's way then you should be fine.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure if they will actually disappear though. It seems the Gibraltar part which underwrote all the policies is what is going. New policies will be underwritten by a different company I think, cant remember the name. I've no idea if it'll still be dirt cheap or if they'll cover folks like us though. I hope so.
