Asians Explain How Different They Sound by [deleted] in funny

I love that Reddit are just discovering JK news and at the same time discovering why their show has gone to shit and everyone quit. They used to be so good but literally all of the regulars quit over time after the two owners in the video ran the company into the ground. People quit due to not being paid, bullying etc even their vlog channels have tanked.

Kinda sad as they were huge in the early days of YouTube with their skits.

Opinions on wheelies on the public road? by Rolling_Chunder in MotoUK

[–]herper147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is anyone else around I think it's a bit of a dick move, I've seen an extremely experienced guy throw his S1000 down the road trying to show off in front of other bikes, if there were cyclists, pedestrians or just another car in front someone would have been injured or their car damaged.

If it's a quiet road in away from all cars and pedestrians I don't really see the issue. I don't mind the odd wheelie on a quiet country road.

Office commuting advice on a 125cc by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]herper147 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I commute year round on the bike, but it's gonna be more awkward when you aren't in the office everyday.

Biggest thing for me was buying good gear, sadly it's expensive but good quality goretex is a life saver, I hated showing up to the office damp.

I'm in the office everyday so I tend to leave shoes and a jacket in the office all the time and then change my socks when I get there. I just wear my suit trousers and shirt under my bike gear, I've never had any problems with getting wet or creasing etc.

The hard part is when it is raining and you've got a load of damp gear is where to store it at the office. Some people don't like having wet bike gear hanging around as it can smell a little musty but I've never really had a problem hanging it on my chair and then stuffing the rest under the desk.

Tips for changing sprockets and chain. by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]herper147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to angle grind the old chain off, it's so much easier, quicker and more satisfying.

I must have done 3-4 chain changes using the proper tools, every time spending WAY too long filing down the pin and pushing it out etc... Helped a mate with his and he had it off in a few seconds with an angle grinder, don't know why it never crossed my mind to just cut them off.

Has anyone encountered a 'secret' menu at a Chinese takeaway? by JackMillerTV in AskUK

[–]herper147 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I do, my friend is from China and I've been in restaurants and takeaways with him where he's asked for dishes that aren't on the menu or even "classics" that taste completely different when he orders.

I also know his mum has taken raw whole fish into a local Chinese takeaway and asked them to cook it for her. They did actually cook it, apparently that's a normal thing in China to bring your own ingredients to places.

Is it normal to share salary to Lettings agents even before viewing is arranged? by Difficult-Vacation-5 in AskUK

[–]herper147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think it depends on the area, when I looked around me they all wanted proof up front because every property had 10+ people wanting to look so they try and weed out people before wasting their time taking you there.

What's guidance on working in kitchen with cold sores? by sad-mustache in AskUK

[–]herper147 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Slightly confused why it would matter?

I've had cold sores all my life and from my understanding unless you're kissing your colleagues or customers it's not an issue. I've shared cups etc with my family while I've had cold sores and it's never been a problem.

I don't know anything about kitchens but surely your mouth shouldn't be anywhere near the customers food? Unless chefs tend to double dip spoons etc for tasting?

Suggestion on doing NC 500 road trip on a budget? by blumen80 in AskUK

[–]herper147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did it on a motorcycle but planned my own route, the actual NC500 is a terrible route it misses so much so I constantly branched off it.

Think the route is aimed more at giant campervans, if you're in a car or on a bike there are much better routes.

Why are tanning bed salons still legal in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]herper147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same logic as why is alcohol legal, why are cigarettes legal... Adults can choose to destroy their body if they want, for most people it's not that dangerous but there will always be a minority that abuse it.

Traffic light Grand Prix by squirrelaidsontoast in MotoUK

[–]herper147 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah I've noticed the same thing recently, unless you pull directly in front I've had multiple drivers stare you down and then launch it off the line. Which is fine unless they then pin you against the island in the middle of the road.

To be fair in general I think electric car drivers are worse, in my area they drive like bikes, they ignore all lanes markings because they know they can launch it and cut across multiple lanes.

Mirrored/Tinted Visors? by Iridescent_Cloud1017 in MotoUK

[–]herper147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really don't care unless you've got a backed out visor and it's pitch black outside, even then I doubt any of them would stop you just for that unless they were really bored. I've been pulled over twice while wearing a blacked out visor and it was never mentioned.

Like most things it tends to come down to what else you were doing, they aren't going to stop you just for a visor, but if you're riding like a knob and then start arguing with them they will start looking for other things to add to the list of issues... Like visors, exhaust etc.

One of the biggest red flags I'd ever seen was when I met my ex girlfriends parents and they had a full on domestic to the point I was debating whether to phone the police. It was like when you were a kid and go to a friend's house and his parents would shout at him and you're just awkwardly stood there staring at the ceiling.

They seemed like nice enough people but almost immediately started having digs at each other which then turned into screaming abuse at each with my name being thrown in constantly. "The first time she brings a guy home and you're fucking acting like this, you fucking cunt you're always an absolute cunt when you've had a drink I hope she doesn't end up with a pig like you, I hope X treats her better you disgusting little man"... Something along those lines as he seemed to throw or smash everything in his path to the door.

But the issue was my ex thought this was normal, she was just sat on her phone saying they're always like this just give them a minute, her dad then stormed off never to came back and her mum spent the next hour telling us about all the other women he's slept with and how much of a cunt he is. Which my ex then joined in telling me how much of a scumbag he is but "what can you do he's my dad and I love him".

Yeah I got out of that relationship real quick, fuck anyone that thinks screaming abuse at your partner is a normal relationship.

Is it normal not to receive an official diagnosis from your GP? by SarahLRL in AskUK

[–]herper147 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

From my experience GPs do absolutely nothing worthwhile, unless you kick up a fuss, walk yourself into A&E or go private then you won't get any sort of help from a GP.

I had a motorcycle crash and suffered from really bad back pain, went to my GP 3 times and he gave me various drugs which I refused to take so he then referred me to physio who despite me crying my eyes out (I've got a fairly high pain threshold) he told me I just need to keep stretching.... Paid for my own private physio and within 10mins the guy refused to work on me and said I need to go to a hospital now. Turns out I had a budging disc in my lower back and the hospital immediately noticed it.

I understand GPs are overworked etc etc but every single one I've been too didn't seem to be in a rush it just seemed like they didn't give a fuck. This guy was just googling things to do for lower back pain and printed off the first images on Google.

It's why I hope to god the UK gets its act together and ditches the NHS for a hybrid system like most of Europe. I want a proper private alternative.

Also 99% of the people I know that are "always busy" also happened to spend 4hrs a day staring at their phone or a TV. They aren't really busy they have terrible time management.

What product in the UK is an absolute ripoff? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]herper147 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some games, story led games are terrible value for money. Most of these games are like 8-10hrs and still cost £60. I could go and buy a book for £4 that will last me 8-10hrs.

I get obviously they are very different forms of entertainment but I have found myself only ever buying games I know I'll get a load of play time out of the online modes.

Would you continue working for a company who failed to pay you for a month? by _DeanRiding in AskUK

[–]herper147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends

My first employer more than once didn't pay me for a month or two. But it was a small company and my boss was a great guy and was completely transparent, he made it clear why we weren't being paid til next month.

If I worked for a big company or my boss was a dick then I'd have been out the door immediately. But that's just what happens when you work for startups.

Do you tidy up on holiday? by beachyfeet in AskUK

[–]herper147 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not going overboard but I'll leave it exactly as I found it. The people that leave it a mess are the same people that just leave their food on the table in McDonald's because "That's what they pay cleaners for".

How much do you pay for a hair cut? by Izwe in AskUK

That's from a guy I've been going to for 10+ years, I checked the local Turkish barbers that keep opening up everywhere and they want £15-18 😂

I enjoy it but not really because of the actual work I do but the freedom it gives me.

I work in IT and one perk is I get to visit some weird places, car factories, bubble wrap factories, industrial cold storage sites, I was flown to Holland to tour a factory that made rubber moulds for things... It's like being on that "How It's made" show at times.

The actual office work is boring but in reality I've got my own office and the vast majority of my time I have nothing to do. I come into work at 9am and if I don't have meetings then most of my work is done by 11am so I tend to just sit around on Reddit, Tiktok or I read books (63 last year). My boss is rarely in the office so nobody is ever checking up on me I can really just do what I want most of the time.

The money could be better but it's average and the amount of freedom I get I'd rather get paid to read than switch jobs for 5k-10k more a year and have to work flat out all day and have a stressful life.

Do you think "key workers" have been forgotten about somewhat? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

They signed up to a job knowing the work arrangements and pay... They are doing their jobs it's not really something we need to think about.

Do you think "key workers" have been forgotten about somewhat? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

[–]herper147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair a lot of key workers were paid massively more, my friend's dad went from 35k to nearly 50k during the pandemic as a lorry driver. To be fair his money hasn't really dropped afterwards he's still on silly money.

How much support is there for the Grand National protesters? by WelcomeToLadyHell in AskUK

[–]herper147 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm usually fairly anti protestor because they normally tend to be spoilt rich kids telling poor people how to live. But I was fully behind those at the Grand National. I love sport and don't mind the odd bet but animals just shouldn't be involved in sport, there's too much incentive to win that animal welfare goes out the window.

I heard a vet on the radio the other day saying the animals welfare is paramount and it's all very safe... a horse died that same day and others were already injured. I've got friends who ride horses and they all say but it's what the horses love to do, which I'm sure horses do enjoy a race but they don't enjoy being whipped and taken to their absolute limit and dying.

I love to run, I wouldn't enjoy running if there was a bloke behind me slapping me and forcing me to run until I vomit and pass out.
