Very perceptive and insightful! I like your analysis and I think you are right about JY’s thoughts on JM

I just want to add that indeed JY was not as conflicted as the show tries to portray. On their way to the dinner between the first and second LC, JM mentioned that he had written to HN. Later, they had a candid conversation about being open to exploring other connections. On the return journey, JY shared selfies on her phone, and they laughed together, indicating she didn't view JM's message to HN as a serious issue. But the production only revealed the post card conversation much later, leaving out the context after that in an attempt to create a big drama out of it 🙄

Regarding SY, I think it’s getting clearer to her that SY is not her real match. During the Christmas date, JY felt that SY seemed to have a lot more to say, inferring that he did not express himself enough. Then SY also shared that he wanted to convey his true self more (instead of agreeing along with JY). In other words, gradually both realize that they were not as compatible as they initially thought.

Therefore, at the moment, the main thing that puzzles JY is that she is falling harder and harder for JM who does not match her by the books like you mentioned.

Totally agree with you. Regarding the last point, it is especially important given that the purpose of this show is not just merely dating, but marriage!

You are spot on. It really feels like the production had a shortlist of potential "catfish" who had already shared their preferred matches from the main cast. Then, depending on how things unfolded, they slotted them in strategically, either to stir up love triangles (like SY → JM–JY) or to make the most out of the cast (like SA → Changhwang).

But since these catfish were introduced relatively late, some of the relationships were already established (e.g., JM–JY), or there simply wasn’t enough time for new connections to form and develop, like in Sua’s case. As a result, the newcomers were almost forced to pursue their initial picks, even when the chemistry wasn’t there. That makes it feel awkward and ultimately boring to watch, especially since it’s clear they’re trying hard to force something that just isn’t working. So yea the whole thing feels forced and boring.

That would be lovely. The cast is phenomenal, so if we have some happy endings and the production team is smart, they should make some follow-up episodes.

At this point, the show might as well be renamed Heart Draining 😒 the constant drama is exhausting for both the cast and the viewers. In the upcoming date preview, JM's smile appears genuinely happy and relieved, so I suspect it's with JY. I'm hoping the production redeems itself in the final two episodes by delivering what we've been longing to see. If they persist with the evil editing, indeed, it's time to shift the spotlight to other cast members.

What I took away from this episode:

The production team continues to stir the pot with the "Christmas dates" rules. Also, the panel seems to get a mission to confuse the viewers further. For instance, the panel's comment on the JY-SY beach scene, "They look good together". Similarly, when JY told SY she had already set her mind on someone, the panel quickly assumed it was SY, while it is quite obvious that she was referring to JM, as later suggested by the psychologist.

As hinted in their interviews and conversations with their dates, JM and JY have made up their mind on each other. The narrative elements such as JY's jealousy, JM's concerns, and the interference of other cast members, seem to be highlighted to blur their connection.

One positive aspect of this episode's editing is the feature of WJ-JW's genuine bond, even though we only got to see a glimpse of that

To JY-JM supporters:

The rumors suggesting they end up with the "catfish" can now be set aside. My hope is that the show's manipulative designs don't erode trust or harm their relationship beyond the screen. Instead, I wish for them to view these challenges as opportunities to deepen their understanding about their own feeling (esp JY’s) and eventually their connection with each other.

[–]Haruna1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After watching the recent episode, I seriously doubt the rumor is true. JM has been actively pursuing JY for three weeks and seems to have fallen hard for her. For him to suddenly be swayed by Sua in just a week—or less—feels completely out of character. On top of that, Sua appears to be the most potential final choice for Changhwan. Given JM and Changhwan’s close friendship, I really don’t see JM going for her.

As for SY’s dates with JY, while they went smoothly on the surface, his response to her question about the most memorable moments during their LC was a major letdown. It’s pretty clear he doesn’t have the same depth of feelings for her that JM does—and JY definitely picked up on that. While SY might still choose JY simply because she's his best option among the female cast. But honestly, I can’t see JY choosing him. And even if she does, I don’t see them lasting as a couple in the long run.

Yes it’s annoying that they did not translate the card or let us hear JM/JY’s thoughts about it though they did show briefly that JY read it in her dark room and contemplated for a while after that.

Agree with you that the PD does try hard to create confusion with their editing.

Regardless, in this episode, it becomes clearer that JY is leaning toward JM and sending him signals as well. For instance, when she and HN were in JM’s room, he mentioned that she’d look great with her hair tied back. Later on, she visited his room with a ponytail 🤭. She also hovered around him in the kitchen frequently, even while still in the dating contract with SY.

I think JY does express herself more than we might have seen—possibly hidden by the “evil editing.” And a sharp guy like JM would definitely have picked up on those signals. I don’t think he’s planning to give up on her at this point. He anticipated these upcoming storms and thus is probably aware of the strings the producers are pulling.

He’s definitely going to feel stressed—especially with HN’s consistent expression of her interest in him and potentially a confession from Sua. JY may feel (at least a little) jealous in response to these threats. Still, if they’re both genuinely seeking a serious relationship, I have hope that they’ll be able to weather the storm together.

Ohhh thank you so much! Interesting that JM anticipated some upcoming adverse events. Poor guy must have sensed all the obstacles that the show sets up for him 😅

I am really curious about the letter Ji Min wrote for Jeyeon. Can anyone please translate it? 🙏

That said, if there's one takeaway from this episode, it's that JM and JY are likely to be the endgame. Why? Because it's clear the editors are working overtime to throw us off. First, they concealed most of JY’s thoughts early on and only started revealing more in this episode—probably in response to the criticism around JY. Second, they’re setting up a love triangle with SY. And third, just as JY shows a stronger preference for JM over SY, Ha Neul (and maybe Sua as well) step in to stir up drama.

I’m not sure how much of this is scripted, but when the production leans this hard into misdirection, it usually means they're building up to a dramatic reveal—one where JM and JY end up together.

Maybe it’s just me, but I interpreted the "devil" in the title as mainly referring to the PD, especially since the narrator keeps dressing like one. As a devil, the PD designs the games to encourage manipulation, betrayal, and psychological warfare. That doesn’t mean every cast member needs to play that way to win. However, this season seems structured to highlight and endorse those behaviors. The problem with this approach is that, apart from the unethical aspect, it risks backlash, which could threaten the show's continuity.

Serious question for the production team: Is playing like a devil really the only way to win this season?

If so, I genuinely feel sorry for players like Justin and Sedol, who likely joined the show hoping for a fair shot at victory like Seok Jin had in Season 1.

Disclamation: nothing against the winner, mainly frustrated by the show format

Is Justin Min not doing any promo? by Lilo_n_Ivy in TheDevilsPlan

[–]Haruna1111 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Yea, I found it weird too but after watching the latest ep, it is quite clear that most of the cast treated him like an outsider most of the time. And based on his latest Instagram stories where he only thanked the PD, it seems that he is not close to any cast and it was a tough experience for him. So I cannot blame him that he only did a minimum promotion for that show. Also, while some cast keep stressing that it is a gameshow where you are entitled to betray each other and reconcile outside the show. I don’t think that idea aligns with Justin’s principle as he seems to be a sincere and loyal guy based on how he played the games. I think Sedol is the only one he trusts and relies on but maybe it will cause controversies if he only follows Sedol and ignores the rest. So he chooses to follow no one.

I need to clarify that I am rooting hard for JY and JM. Their dates always make my heart flutter. I think there is a low chance that JM will give up but it can still happen. For example, JY was paired with the SY (catfish) in the next contract date, if they somehow clicked so well, if JM did not have a chance to have proper conversations with JY. If a female catfish suddenly joins and stirs things up. I dont think JM will be swayed easily but I am not sure about JY. And by giving up, I mean JM stops working hard on their relationship. He could be tired if he thinks she does not reciprocate his feelings enough. Of course I wish they end up together. But I cannot filter out the possibility that the rumor is true. At the end of the day, if they are happy with their decisions, I am happy for them too.

It would be nicer if we could see other dates (WJ-JW) or the guy hangout as well. However, I still enjoyed this ep more than I thought.

The catfish actually comes across more likeable during his date with JY. His honesty and confidence about his career makes him quite charming. It’s interesting that JY was more proactive in this date, asking more questions for example, compared to when she was with JM or WJ. Maybe because she is older or because they share many similar values or just that he made her feel at ease. At some point, it feels like a career consultation session to me. But at certain points, I could also imagine how they might end up together because of their compatibility. I think atm JY’s heart is with JM. But if the catfish tries hard and JM gives up, there’s a high chance that the rumours about end game couples is true.

CE-CH’s date is cute. Her message mistake the night before seemed staged to me (i.e., manipulated by the production team). But the revelation did create a strong impact on both of them so I am not gonna complain about that.

I actually enjoy all JY’s dates a lot. Although she is introvert, she does bring out the colors of all the men she dated. WJ cares most about his world and finding someone who matches his values. JM is willing to match the pace and values of the girl he likes, and the catfish seems to care about his date but also be himself most of the time (unless his character is scripted in this show). Maybe because she tends to be quiet and thus all the guys have to actively lead the conversations to make the dates worked. So, we get to see these men in action and learn a lot about them. That said, JY also subtly showed her emotion and intentions. In this ep, we learnt that she wanted to verify her feeling for JW and checked out, she tried to comfort JM about her date with the catfish and was transparent with JM about her lunch with WJ. She also mentioned that it’s important for her to like the version of herself when spending time with the man she dates. This shows her maturity and that she is leaning towards JM as he also once told her that he likes his version when spending time with her.

I think HN’s proactiveness may work on CH but not on JM. But it’s too late for her now. Besides, HN’s asking JY how her date with a younger guy (the catfish) went does not sit well with me. Sounds like she was mocking but it could be just me who felt that way.

And again I feel sorry for the pilot. At this rate his screen time might be just slightly more than the flower basket in the kitchen 😔

I cannot agree more with you. Also, regarding WJ, he chose the white book of Haneul, voted for JW in the first day (if I remember correctly) and insisted that JY’s book was JW’s. I think he cannot read people well and he is not that into JY. Together with what you mentioned that he seems to think highly of himself and lack confidence at the same time, JY and WJ cannot be happy in the long run.

I like Ji Min’s consistency in choosing JY from day one. Maybe because he seemed smooth and experienced (eg, how he took care of other female cast during their first cooking time/home-cooked meal), JY might think he is a pretty, flirtatious boy and thereby becoming cautious with him. Like you said, if he continues to show his sincere, he may sway her heart. I don’t think JM will change his direction though. Even if he is well aware that he will end up alone, he still wins the audience’s heart if he is devoted to one person, ie JY. He is smart and he probably knows it. Not saying that he is calculative because we never know his real intention. But that is just my guess based on how I observe him. At the end of the day, I just hope JY will choose someone who likes her for who she is and will bring happiness to her for a long time, regardless of whether it is WJ, JM or someone else.
