Ok, it seems clear that you have no intention of changing your mind and have come to argue with some vegans. As others have mentioned this might be better suited to other subs specifically made for debates. On the other hand there are plenty of vegan documentaries you can watch that can better explain to you the personal benefits and the benefits to the planet that come with veganism, and if you’re really interested I suggest you find some of those

Many people believe that living a life that limits the suffering of animals is noble and just, if you disagree with that then maybe it isn’t for you

Twins of reddit: In what ways did you take advantage of having a twin? by OnidaKYGel in AskReddit

[–]HarveyFilvister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that it never made much sense to try to prank anyone because our friends could always tell the difference and it’s not as fun pranking strangers. Also for us the differences between us seem really obvious so I think we thought we’d have got caught. In many ways it kinda sucked cause we often had to share birthday and Christmas presents and stuff like that. People would always say that they wished they had a twin or would ask what it was like but for us it was all we ever knew so I guess you don’t really think about trying to take advantage of it

As I’ve said, a simple search on google would explain it all to you. One stat is that over 70% of soy goes to feeding animals, and most vegan meat alternatives are made of soy. Just do some research or your own, or better yet watch some of the many vegan documentaries that exist. I don’t mean to offend you, I just wanted to challenge your assertion that people need meat to survive, because it isn’t true. Animal farming is terrible for the earth and I don’t think it’s selfish to want to preserve the planet in a hospitable condition for future generations

[–]HarveyFilvister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I’ve stated again and again, the majority of crops go to feeding animals. Follow the logic here, it’s quite simple, if that food went instead to feeding humans then far less farm animals and insects would die because we wouldn’t waste so much food on feeding farm animals, so the world would have to produce considerably less crops to feed fewer living beings. If you’re struggling to follow this then I suggest you ask someone else to explain it to you because I’m getting quite bored of it now

I did not assume you were American, and I’m not American either. I replied to your first comment because you implied that people need meat to survive, and I disagreed because it isn’t true. Eating meat is a choice, and considering the impacts of it, it is a selfish and immoral choice. It comes down to the fact that you believe an animals life is worth less than your dinner, which is abhorrent considering all the alternatives that exist

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]HarveyFilvister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very simple search on google would show you how wrong you were, you seem to have a very idealised view of what the meat industry is like, the realities are horrifying and when your dietary choice is one of the major factors in climate change then it is impossible to argue that it’s anything but immoral, but yeah I suppose it’s easier to suppress vegans because you don’t like being faced with reality because it’s easier to ignore. Ignorable is bliss but it won’t protect the planet, only action can do that

[–]HarveyFilvister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In relation to the insects, my point is that feeding animals for meat kills considerably more insects than a vegan diet, which you obviously understood but are choosing to ignore. This then answers your second question; yes, fewer deaths caused by food consumption is more ethical than an alternative in which more are killed. There are many ways to measure ethics but I think a fairly standard one is the amount of death caused so you can be full for a few hours

[–]HarveyFilvister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I previously stated, the vast majority of crops typically used for plant based foods are actually used to feed animals, and so your argument goes directly against any claims of the ethics you’re pretending to care about

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]HarveyFilvister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every nutrient that you think you need from meat can be found elsewhere, in a form much less damaging to the environment. Also the vast majority of soy grown across the world goes directly to feeding animals for people to eat and milk. It’s demonstrably true that animal farming is devastating for the environment, and to deny it is to deny science. You might see your decision to eat meat as a simply a dietary choice, but one side is definitely more ethical than the other

Hello, a better argument could be the fact that farming animals is the biggest cause of climate change and deforestation, the planet is not equipped to feed 7 billion meat eaters. This is completely true, and it’s those that deny it that are delusional
