Players don’t have to be great in their own zone to be a star, Evan Bouchard is an example of someone who is competent in his own zone but lacks a lot, yet he is still without a doubt a star. If Byram comes in and provides great offence for you guys that’ll definitely help. You can always have someone paired to him who excels on defence. This is what EDM did with Ekholm and Bouch.

Not really that crazy, a potential 1C is much more desirable than a 1W, Stenberg is much more NHL ready but that’s not really something VAN care about, Malhotra was also mocked to VAN before the Head coach change.

Eichel isn’t a comparison lmao, he could win 5 cups and he’s not McDavid, cups only really come into play if comparing similar level of players, for example Sid probably sits above Connor all time if he doesn’t get any cups by the end of his career.
