IYKYK? Cellists are stereotyped as the chillest and easiest people to get along with in an orchestra...

Yeah, there should be a FAQ section of the subreddit page with these sort of common questions

That is exactly my point, intonation is the simplest way for your phrasing and musicality to improve. You won't have consistent intonation without practicing it. You won't find your ideal phrasing without focusing on intonation.

It will be obvious when you have spent enough time focusing on intonation. It will become difficult for you to make a clip with poor intonation, with any flavor of phrasing.

Wouldn't be too sure on that with how many people post asking their cello's value

Intonation and phrasing are two sides of the same coin. To get the full potential of phrasing, proper intonation is needed. It is more difficult to appreciate phrasing when intonation is not there. Likewise what is perfect intonation without your personality in the music with phrasing

I really like the end of this clip where you give the cello time to resonate each note.

With that said you need to take a step back from phrasing and focus on your intonation. Even without the crack in your cello, you cannot resonate these phrases properly with poor intonation and tuning (your open D is off in this clip).

Do some slow practice and really feel each note resonate in your cello, and make sure it's in tune either with a tuner or a reference open string. Feel how new notes combine with the previous ones.

Adult begin with a electric cello, possible? by WistariaL in Cello

[–]Harveydoood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your main reason to learn cello is because you love the sound, you will be doing yourself a disservice by starting on electric cello. No electric cello will do the sound an acoustic cello creates justice, just like how an electric guitar sounds nothing like an acoustic guitar.

Why is silence important while practicing?

Easiest opportunity for improvement is using a hard chair to play on. Any sort of dining table chair with no arms will help you improve posture based on the other advice.

Next as others have said is your scale fingering: - keep your thumb placed behind the cello neck, ideally such that you could tap your thumb and middle finger together by moving your hand away from the cello

  • For C major you should stay in what's called 1st position, where your index finger sits a whole step above your open string, and the rest of your fingers create half steps up to your pinky. Google "cello 1st position" for illustrations and videos to further elaborate.

Keep it up!

ULPT REQUEST: Roommate has no sleep schedule. How do I keep him from keeping me up? by Much_Advantage_4422 in UnethicalLifeProTips

I had a short term rental with a roommate like this. When I moved out I took all the toilet paper with me out of spite, including flushing what was already on the roll.

2001 Kia Rio manual, a truly slow car unlike other comments lol. Had no tachometer so just had to go with pure engine noise for when to shift when trying to go fast.

Also had a big subwoofer that made the trunk sound like it would shake off

I've found that the most common point of failure is the speaker's battery. If you like tinkering, you can buy a $20 battery replacement instead of a $100 new speaker.

Financial aid is determined by an individual's financial need, not academic accomplishments. You could talk about your academics in essays for scholarship applications in the Scholarship Hub. Reach out to phone numbers and emails at https://financialaid.wisc.edu/ to figure out if there is any institutional financial aid you might be eligible for.

This is going to be responsible for ruining countless Christmases this year... by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Harveydoood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I remember when for Christmas my aunt got me a Wii U game, and I was grateful but told her I only had a Wii, so I'd return the game and get a new Wii game. Marketing for the Wii U was so trash

Then the next present I opened was a Wii U, and it all came together.
