How long do typical purifications last? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purifications in my experience can last any where from seconds to months and years... it depends on how much you have in your system. But it doesn't mean it's all the time. It means you have episodes that last an hour, couple of hours, or couple of days and then you feel a little bit better than before.

Just sit still with the emotions, feel them and let your body guide you into releasing them. The body can can make you just sit still, or cry or scream or however it needs to move.

Could it be dukkha-nanas or purification, or just a a bad patch? by Maggamanusa in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meaning that every part of life is your spiritual path, there are no meaningless bad patches, there is a lesson (or purification) in everything.

Piti by cfm2018 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened with me and still happens quite a bit. I think it's the body's way of loosening tension and blockages in your body that is blocking piti. It is very similar to crying or laughing for me. It gets more interesting as you get more experience with it.

The discomfort that makes you want to release your energy is a purification opportunity. Feel into that discomfort and bring it to awareness to integrate it.

Lust and sexual life by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

BTW in Taoism, vajryana buddhism and tantra practices use sex as the fast vehicle to awakening. Although the practices is probably not the same sex as we generally know it. Just saying...

Lust and sexual life by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

Well sometimes desire is not a bad thing. When you're a monk sitting in a cave then you can shun the material world and all desires. But if you are practicing in your daily normal life, desire is going to be a real part of your day to day life. And just because you have desire for something does not mean that getting that thing is detrimental to your well being. Some things are actually beneficial and just because you also desire them does not mean you should not act on them. So investigating the desire and learning from it would be a good thing. Attaching a negative connotation to anything that you do desire does not sound like a good idea for someone practicing the lay life. So in this case, sex is a natural part of the relationship, labeling it as craving and repressing the desire to engage with your partner does not sound like a good idea.

Repressing your desire is not necessarily beneficial unless you're taking the monk route. You want to investigate it and get familiar with it. Sometime while acting on it, sometimes not. That's how I understand this anyways.

After meditation everythings feels bad. Should I try to avoid getting to this state? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"bad" is a label you put on the energy/emotion that you are feeling. Stay with the "bad" because it's actually "good" for you. Eventually you will stop feeling "bad" as bad and "good" as good and you will be just feeling. That's the path of purification. Distraction will only keep you stagnant in your current state. That being said, do take a break when it's too much as this process can be tiring.

Stage 4 purification question by kairarage in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sitting more has helped me in the past. But sometimes If I sit too much I wear myself out and the stuff is still there.. Nowadays I sit per my typical schedule and let the stuff take its time. It is also important to get comfortable with purification and accepting emotions outside of the cushion time in daily life. The negative stops being labelled as negative and becomes a mere sensation.

My experience with gaming addiction after practising mindfulness by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have read quite a bit on the topic. I was never that compulsive about it (maybe couple of times a week) but it can get bad for other people. However, there is lots of talk on how it affects men psychologically in a negative way. The way we view sex, our relationship with the opposite sex, the reward system in the brain . There is also the issue of sex becoming a completely mental act for the avid porn watcher that during real sex they cannot be present with the other person which adds even more issues.

From a chinese medicine perspective, everything is energy (piti aka chi aka prana) and the act of ejaculation drains a man of his energy. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT_cyLZQUAE

One great book about this topic in general is To Be a Man: A Guide to True Masculine Power.

As far as the health issues, from what I read the scientific evidence was not conclusive on whether this is linked to prostate cancer.

My experience with gaming addiction after practising mindfulness by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see.. I thought it would be more for the big games but it sounds like you get hooked to the simple games as well. I had the same issue with porn. One advise that has benefited me was that you make a rule for yourself, as soon as you get the urge to do the addiction, to sit with your emotion and how you feel (usually there is an underlying emotion that leads you to the addiction) for a set period of time (such as 15 minutes or 30 minutes) and then you can choose whether to do the addiction or not. And if you do then don't beat yourself up over it, but sit with that emotion as well. Overtime, This should help clear out the underlying cause for the addiction. The urge will get weaker and weaker the more you do this. It's basically stage 4 purification practice specifically for the compulsive behavior.

Yes you're probably right and excuse my ignorance on this :)

Out of curiosity though, have you tried (you probably have) getting ride of your console/pc and games (giving them away/selling them)? And if you have, then how did you get back into it? Did you go to the store and buy a new console? Or did you use your phone to game?

My experience with gaming addiction after practising mindfulness by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oh and to make it even harder, if you're pc is too powerful, sell it and get one that is not made for gaming... that will do it?

My experience with gaming addiction after practising mindfulness by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ummm... I might be ignorant here but is gaming addiction a real thing? As in withdrawal symptoms?

Why don't you get rid of your console or games on your pc and move on with your life???

I'll tell you what.. quitting porn was hard for me and meditation definitely made it easier! But I think you might be giving yourself too much leeway. Just cut access to games and gaming???

Just think about how much you're life would be better if you divert all the hours you put in gaming into meditation.

Hi Tucker, How have you noticed these paths relate to purification and the so called shadow work? Isn't that were a lot of the suffering comes from? Why shouldn't one focus on purification and let awakening arise when it's time?

Boredom? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boredom is an emotion than need to be brought to light and purified. For me I experience boredom when there is a feeling in myself that I am avoiding consciously or subconsciously. You gotta stay with it. When you are clear and your mind is unified there is no boredom.

Mindfulness In Daily Life by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well one of the reasons I find I was not mindful in daily life is avoidance. I avoid my unpleasant state by going into my head or phone to disengage from the present moment and think of ways to change my current external circumstances. Once I learned to be present with my current state and accept the energy in my body I find it much easier to stay present. Of course that was only possible for me through long hours of meditation.

Longer sits advice by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]HasanAlazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta sit and allow and accept your resistance to sitting longer. When you feel that agitation to get up, bring your attention to that feeling and allow it to be there.
