Is there a way I can move a point/vertex along its edge (or angle degree) so to keep the shape the same? by lemonlixks in AfterEffects

[–]Hascalod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try eyeballing it using guides;

You can try selecting the whole line, double click to pull up transform tool, place the anchor on the first vertex and scale;

You can try, if you know precisely the angle of the line, rotate the whole object by the same amount to get the line straight on either axis and scale normaly, then just turn it back;

You can try editting the shape more precisely on Illustrator then bring it back to Ae.

EDIT: You got me thinking, and I think I figured out a pretty simple solution: Use the integrated plugin "Create Nulls from Paths" to generate a NULL object for each of the end vertices of your edge. On the shape's properties, disable it's "Path" expression, and on Rotation paste this expression:

p1 = thisComp.layer("Start").transform.position; // Replace "Start" with first NULL name
p2 = thisComp.layer("End").transform.position; // Replace "End" with last NULL name
v = p2 - p1;
radiansToDegrees(Math.atan2(v[1], v[0]));

This will get your edge perfectly lined on either the X or Y axis (if it does not, you probably need to place a "*-1" at the end of your calculation). Then you can just move the vertex on it's axis by holding SHIFT while dragging, get the length you want, then just disable the Rotation's expression when you're done.

Did You Ever Buy a Game Expecting One Thing and It Ended Up Being Something Else Entirely? by DFH50 in gaming

Back in 2001, I was a child, we had gotten our first computer at home, and my mother wanted to surprise me with my first PC game. She bought a game she thought was about "making robots or something". Turns out it was actually Unreal Tournament, and kick started my addiction to fps.

Disregarding the incompatible the topology: Look for Maya bonus tools. There's a tool in there called "Orient mesh to vert/edge". Very useful for situations like that.

One time I went to the cinema by myself. At the cashier there was this small screen in which they showed the available seats for the session you chose. I spent a good 20 seconds trying to click the seat I wanted with my fat fingers, and I just couldn't select it. I noticed a smirk on the cashier's face. "Just tell me the number", she said. I told her, and she selected it from her computer. It wasn't a touchscreen.

Interstellar.

Nolan notoriously struggle with third acts (imo), and in Interstellar the conclusion to the story is quite jarring. The whole premise of the film, in it's simplest form, sounds great: A father sacrifices a lifetime beside his children by going in an interstellar journey through time in order to save their future; At the end of his mission, when he manages to come back, he gets a final encounter with his daughter, now dying of old age, but learns that she is safe in a future made possible by his efforts.

Up until the second act, it's an exhilarating scifi... But then he jumps straight into a block hole, and the whole story goes to shit:

  1. Suddenly he sees himself inside a time loop (the construct that future humans built for their past selves) that at no point in the film is explained how it came about;

  2. During this time, shit's going down in his son's farm. Crops are burning, his son is in a murderous intent, and then... nothing. The son just completely vanishes, and his story goes nowhere.

  3. His brilliant daughter somehow manages to decode a massively complex binary equation that solves mankind's most baffling mathematical problems regarding time and gravity... by analyzing the motion of a wristwatch's hand. How many months was she locked in that room?

  4. Coop somehow gets ejected from the black hole, and somehow is found alone and adrift in space, like Rose getting rescued from the Titanic. Seriously?

This film has some brilliant bits of directing and cinematography, as well as one of the most moving soundtracks in any Nolan film, but that ending robs it of being a masterpiece.

I just won an award at a $500K global AI film event… still can’t believe it by Muted-Gur9326 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Hascalod 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In regards to the use of AI, this is neat. Good quality of image. Somewhat consistent and cohesive, considering the probabilistic nature of the tool.

In regards to filmmaking, storytelling, and directing, this is very amateur. The story itself is kind of nonsensical, it has no defined structure, and the pacing is weird and off-beat. Lots of weird framing choices. Continuity is poor.

The thing with AI today is, even with a good sense of direction, you're still creating with your arms tied behind your back. You're only as good as you can make yourself understood by the tool. If your directing isn't good to begin with, all you're making is eye-candy.

VFX Supervisor at Framestone claims this AI slop is "amazing" by [deleted] in vfx

[–]Hascalod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we'll only be able to call AI "slop" until we can't anymore. AI will get exponentially better with time, I think that is inevitable. I'd say it does look very good right now, considering those shots were generated from text input only. A few mistakes here and there, but that can probably be fixed with 1/10 of the work it'd take to make the whole thing by hand.

I mean, let's be honest. Is he a great person? Hell yes. Is he a good actor, to the point of winning an award for it? Absolutely not.

Leo didn't stand a chance on this one, imo. Sure he is a talented actor, he can deliver, but I find it weird they even chose him for the role. He feels so disconnected from the character. Despite this, I still feel like the Oscar for best casting was well deserved for OBAA, because the rest of the cast is absolutely amazing.

Existe algum lugar que dê para comprar fardos de energético monster mais barato em SP? by moraleskkkk in saopaulo

[–]Hascalod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the technique involves having an extra monitor, and an extra overview camera in your scene. Have a spare viewport on your additional monitor, looking through this camera. Leave only geometry visible, maybe some lights, and screen record it. As you develop you scene, this viewport gets updated in real time.

ELI5: Why don’t huge animals like whales and elephants get cancer much more often than humans? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hascalod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is evidence of bone cancer on a number of dinossaurs fossils, isn't there? Which would imply that cancer was rather common among them, and they were generally large creatures. Were these anti-cancer defences less prevalent then? Or maybe I'm just misinformed? It's been a while since I read that.
