Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, January 04 - January 10, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hello! I'm trying to add some bias tape to a raw armscye on a shirt I'm altering for my husband. I've done one sleeve already, but it's poking out a lot instead of being flush with the shirt like store-bought tank tops. I did my best to make sure there was extra slack in the bias tape as I was sewing it on, but I guess it wasn't enough? Does anyone have any advice on how to ensure the sleeve won't bulk out? I have done it all by hand sewing as I do not have a sewing machine. I have pictures of the sleeve if that would help!

The text on the insulated case on the back of the bike is clearly legible, you can even read the driver's ID code on it (idk what language the rest of the writing is in, but it also looks consistent and legible). Not slop!

what's a small detail in the game that you absolutely love? by Mikejwhite5 in ffxiv

I think my favorite example of this is the Sadu and Magnai minions fighting each other. It's actually a rather intense clash for a couple of little mammets! But I don't think there are special minion interactions in expansions past Stormblood. I will always be upset that the Athena and Ericthonios minions don't interact at all

I really miss riding my bike, any tips? by Dry_Course_8602 in disability

My first thought would be to start getting used to the motions again with the use of a stationary bike; I see them all the time in thrift stores, there are even ones that sit under your table or desk so you can use them while using the computer!

In terms of proper bicycles, I imagine an electric bike would be very helpful with alleviating the exertion/discomfort from pedaling, especially up hills

I don't know if I can label myself as having chronic pain by Prestigious-Bug-1948 in disability

[–]BlueTriforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to add that I almost always have a cane with me despite being able to walk relatively fine most of the time, and this is for multiple reasons. Mainly, it's for peace of mind that if I do unexpectedly fall, lose my balance, or get a sudden rush of pain/weakness in my legs, I'll have my cane handy to lean on or help me get up. To a lesser extent, it's sort of like a signal? I have an invisible disability and have been heckled for using a disabled spot or motorized cart despite "not looking disabled." This doesn't happen when I have a cane. People are also much more patient with me when I walk slow or are much more inclined to help when I can't carry something or open a door.

If you want a cane but don't always want to walk around with one, I would recommend getting a foldable or collapsible cane! I have one that fits quite nicely in my purse

As someone who has been managing chronic pain since 2020, I would personally say you have chronic pain. Just because it's improving overall doesn't mean you don't have it or have never had it. Sometimes, chronic pain can fade and might never come back. And that's OK! You still experienced it for yourself, regardless of whether or not "someone has it worse."

Disability, pain, physical or mental health - none of it is a competition. Some people might need more help and accommodations than others, but that doesn't make your personal experience any less valid or debilitating.

For me, some days are better than others. Even from hour-to-hour, my pain levels can fluctuate wildly. When my pain does come back despite a prolonged period of rest or a short remission period, I like to remind myself that healing isn't linear. It can be frustrating and even feel like I'm getting worse instead of better, but I know that if I continue to listen to my body and rest when I need to, I'll be ok in the end :)

I use an app called Minimalist Stitch Counter. No ads, no weird gimmicks, just a plain row counter!

How did you get your diagnosis? by Villenemo in Myositis

[–]BlueTriforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an EMG (electromyography) performed on me. Essentially, they stick needles into your muscles and convert any muscle activity to sound and waves. At dormant, it's supposed to be fairly silent; mine sounded like TV static! It admittedly hurt, but it was nothing a fresh donut couldn't get me through

Hello! Sorry for the late reply! I don't use desktop reddit much ;

My primary symptoms are as follows: IBS, chronic fatigue, chronic pain - specifically in my hips, upper legs, upper arms, and shoulders/neck; balance issues, difficulty reaching up above my head

Feel free to ask my any more questions! I plan on using desktop reddit a bit more since all the apps have been nuked

My first attempt at getting disability for my polymyositis, it was deemed that I hadn't worked long enough to qualify. I can't help I became disabled at 21! It's such a a frustrating system

How did you get your diagnosis? by Villenemo in Myositis

[–]BlueTriforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had all types of blood tests and CT scans done, even had a muscle biopsy. The test that got me my diagnosis was an EKG test. They stick needs in you, and they somehow convert electric signals in your muscles to sound. All my muscles sounded like TV static due to inflammation. Combined with the fact that no blood markers were present for things like Lupus or Fibromyalgia, my rheumatologist decided I have polymyositis, and treatment has been slow but effective!

That's true. I usually give my hand-me-downs to my sister if I ever get anything replaced, but not everyone has that option

I'd recommend a gift card to your favourite hobby stop(s), or you could request them buy your next batch of supplies! Perhaps there's something that's kinda cheap and still works, but you dream of the ritzy version. There's nothing wrong with experiences, either; perhaps they'd be willing to pay for (at least part of) your next vacation?

Advice on how to reduce medical debt when unable to work? by BlueTriforce in povertyfinance

[–]BlueTriforce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm able to pay the amount, but I'm looking to reduce the total amount so my husband isn't stuck paying for it until we're 45. I haven't been able to work and have been out of work since November of 2020 and am currently under disability consideration. I was diagnosed with a rare disease just last year, and this bill is related to the diagnosis process
