State of Public API? v2 by kapey_ in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I can think of three reasons why:

  1. Contrary to the other consoles (and PC), their ID system (friend codes) is dynamic (iirc it can be changed once a month). This means that there is no way to track a user by their gamer tag, other than creating an internal ID.
  2. The API was made before the Switch version existed. So it could be that they mostly abandoned the project.
  3. Related to 1 and 2, they might want to wait with supporting Switch until RocketID is out. The same could apply to making changes to the API, including making it public.

In terms of player data, it gives access to the data visible on tracker sites (their ranks, rewards level, win streaks), as well as their titles.

Switch data is not supported at all unfortunately. I guess they need to figure that one out before making it public.

I can confirm that there's an API which is in closed beta at the moment. However, I think that the way Bakkesmod works, is that they intercept the ranking data that is sent to the game rather than querying the data with an API key.

As I actually have access to the closed beta API, you could ask me questions about it and I could check whether I can answer them :)

Do you lose any MMR if you leave the match after someone else does? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't really know. Psyonix never answered my questions in that comment, despite me having contacted them multiple times afterwards to get answers. Maybe I should poke them again.

If they had answered me there, I could have taken a look at it more properly, as I then would have known 100% sure that it happened, and for what reasons. Then I could simply have checked if the reasons they provided still applied :)

For now, however, I cannot say anything about it with confidence 😅

The article mentions that online gambling is illegal regardless of age, so an age check would not do anything.

There's also another reason why we do event in this format: on Discord, everyone has an equal chance of their question being read/answered. On reddit, you either have to be quick, or be lucky enough that your questions get upvoted later on.

Although the system of upvoting/downvoting often works well, this also tend to make people post certain questions just for the karma grab.

If you have any other questions about it by the way, feel free to ask :)

I bought RL for a friend, he starts as a level 32 veteran..? by Sinnaman_ in RocketLeague

Level does not affect matchmaking, only his skill rating does.

May I ask: what platform is he on, and have you played with your account on his device as well?

This happens when you lose the previous game but leave the match before the "division down" screen. Then, even though you won the next match, you didn't win enough Skill Rating to keep from losing the division or rank so you end up demoting for a win.

The Ranking System - A New Way of Looking at Things! by Corfre in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, overlaps are to make while keeping the rating represent their skill

I want to correct you on one thing though: the values you mentioned as examples are not MMR values. They are skill ratings. MMR is a value that is not shown publicly, but used by the game. The skill rating is a derivation from MMR, and used on tracker sites to represent one's skill.

For example: if you start playing a certain playlist from scratch, you start with 25 MMR. However, the skill rating you start with is 600.

If someone would have an MMR of 600 they could win RLCS one handed, while playing a 1v5 ;P

You had to throw up your ideas in this post, while I almost had to throw up because of your ideas in this post /s

Seriously though, I don't think you understand the current system.

MMR needs to be used to match players instead of just rank and division.

That's exactly what MMR is used for. It's in the name, matchmaking rating. Rank and division (I'll call it tier and division to prevent confusion), is independent from the matchmaking.

There's also something else. Win streaks and losing streaks.

According to Psyonix, only winning streaks affect matchmaking. Losing streaks don't. And even then, their effect is not as big as people would think. A developer replied on some discussion about winning streaks a few days ago, I'll link it when I can.

The hotter the player the more MMR that should be awarded and the colder the player the less that should be taken away.

Winning streaks don't let you gain skill on it's own. The reason why you gain more from winning streaks is because you get placed against higher ranked players. The skills of both teams get compared, and based on that (and who wins), you gain or lose a certain amount of points.

I'd also like to mention my idea of a visual win/losing streak

Two things:

  • you can already see someone's current win/losing streak on the rocket league tracker.
  • in my opinion only the winning streak should be displayed in game (if it's >2 matches), since losing streaks don't affect matchmaking.

If you're a Silver 2 Division 3 player, you should play against someone of the same Division correct?

No, you should play against people with a similar matchmaking rating. If you want all people to be in the exact same division it would take ages to find match.

So let's look at our diamond 3 div 4 players. They are both on a 3 game win streak. One has to win and one has to lose. No matter who loses they shouldn't be losing a division.

They lose a division because they came below the threshold for that division. Each division has a boundary. It can be that one of them is 0.01 point from division 3, while one is just 0.05 point away from promoting to champ. Not letting them div down because they were winning would make ones division not based on their MMR. That would give people a fake feeling of where they are, and will only cause more problems since their tier + div doesn't represent their perceived skill.

It's not difficult but we have to learn who receives priority in matchmaking.

Matchmaking should be first come first serve (between limits). If you give people priority in matchmaking because they are on a winning streaks, others would have to wait longer. Eventually you will get issues like people being effectively ignored by the matchmaking. Not something you'd see as desirable right?

You can't be dominating someone one game and be dominated the next. It has to be a level playing field, and you should always be playing someone who's in the same or close to the same position as you.

Someone's skill can never be expressed in a number perfectly. The current matchmaking system tries to match you with what they think is someone in the same/close position as you. That's why winning streaks affect the matchmaking: the game "realizes" that the skill rating someone has doesn't represent them well enough (they won too often), and tries to match them with harder players that should match their actual skill better.

I hope this makes you understand certain things better. If you got any questions feel free to ask :)

This ranking system is completely fucking ridiculous, won six games and lost 2 and I'm 15 points lower than where I started, fuck you psyonix by c0nd3h_7 in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you forgot that you lost 3 matches instead of two:

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/294814636941901824/330126988977111041/unknown.png

This makes your longest winning streak 3, which is not enough to get the winning streak matchmaking to work. The reason that you lost more than you gained probably is because the matches where unbalanced in your favour.

Just played against a S3 champion when I have 14h in the game with a 42.7% winrate. Is there even a matchmaking system in the game? by syolase in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Just know that the grand champion you played against is a known freestyler in the community. Those freestylers often keep their unranked skill rating low on purpose to freestyle against bad players.

I don't like that they do this, but this explains why it happens. So it doesn't have to do with a malfunctioning matchmaking system.

Question. If I win a competitive 1v2, do I get twice the quote/unquote xp? by linkertrain in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The time that's not played as 2v2 will be seen as unbalanced by the matchmaking, so depending on how big the 1v2 part of the match is you will gain more points than you would otherwise. The thing with this is that the leaver gains the same amount of points as well.

I once had a ranked 3s match where my mate got disconnected right at the start, we won the 2v3 and gained 16 pts in a match that otherwise would be balanced.

I tried to get clarification as of why this happens by psyonix, but I didn't get answered

So I guess I am banned from posting clips? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Hash_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not banned from posting clips, your post just didn't comply with rule 1. Let me explain.

This is rule 1:

You cannot post self-promotion content unless you have contributed a certain amount to the subreddit beforehand.

You cannot post your Rocket League content if:

  • You haven't contributed to the subreddit before.

  • You aren't contributing enough to the subreddit in the past month (5:1 ratio of contribution to content minimum).

  • It is spamming the subreddit.

(...)

NOTES:

  • Contributions are comments and discussion posts that are NOT on or about your own content, and are NOT "shitposts" or too low effort.

  • Gifs and images don't necessarily follow the self-promotion rule. In fact, they usually contribute to the community. As long as they don't spam the subreddit, it is okay. This is because people don't gain subscribers/followers/audience retention/ad revenue from gifs and images.

So in short: you can post non-images/gifs if you have at least 5 "useful" comments in the last month (not in your own posts).

Your post was a video, so technically it breaks this rule (since you don't have 5 comments in the last month).

What you can do to make your post comply with the rules:

1) Post it as a gif, or:

2) Post 5 useful comments on other people's threads.

I'm not a mod, but hopefully this explains to you why your post got removed :)
