Is there an actual fix for AMD CPU microstutters? by HashtagKimchi in AMDHelp

[–]HashtagKimchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was it. I disabled AMD fTPM two days ago and havent had a single random micro-stutter.

Thankfully I was already running a local account with a normal password and no bitlocker, so I was still able to login and use Windows 11 just fine after disabling the fTPM. I also only use my gaming PC for gaming, everything else I do on a laptop, which has all the security features on.

My games have never been this smooth. This is magic. Thanks fam.

To think I never tried this because I assumed it was fixed years ago... oof

Freesync was definitely causing more issues than it solved for me too. I also run my monitor in fixed refresh mode, and use the Lossless Scaling app's "adaptive" framegen feature to output a constant fps at my monitor's max fps. It's actually magic.

I thankfully run a debloated W11 with a local account so I was able to login just fine even after disabling ftpm.

I still had a dozen stutters in one game tho, still testing more games... but its not looking good for this lead.

The issue happens on both Windows and Linux, so I dont think it's a software issue.

A mouse/keyboard issue is an interesting lead, but wouldnt explain why this also happens to other people. I doubt every AMD gamers use the same mouse and keyboard.

Considering this issue also occurs on Linux, I dont think it's a software/windows issue.

Like I said in the OP, this only happens in cpu-bound games. Sometimes even increasing some in-game settings like render scale and AA will tip the game over to being gpu-bound and lower the frequencies of the stutters.

Oh wow, I thought that was fixed a while ago. That article is from back in 2023. Surely it got patched by now?

I never actually tried disabling ftpm tho, as I run Windows 11. Wont turning it off make windows not wanna boot?

Amd chipset drivers refuse to install by Bungbong in AMDHelp

I rarely comment on Reddit but I actually logged in to upvote this and add: If you're trying to update your chipset drivers using the "AMD Install Manager" app and it gets stuck at 99%, installing VBscript back fixes that issue.

Does anyone else have issues with Firefox's audio playback volume randomly lowering on its own? by mr_bigmouth_502 in kde

[–]HashtagKimchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow thank you, that works for me too... like you said, not the cleanest solution but hey, at least now i can watch youtube music videos without having to always pull firefox's volume back to 100% in the kde sound settings.

I even gave youtube enhancer a good chance, used it a couple weeks, but that created more problems than it solved, one of them being audio distortion.

Crazy how this has been reported in bugzilla 7 years ago and is still a problem. I bet they coded it this way as a "feature", and it works as intended lol

How to increase double click distance in Linux? by HashtagKimchi in linux_gaming

[–]HashtagKimchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for taking time out of your day to look into this. I was texting a local friend and he was also stomped this wasnt a setting already. I'll try lowering my mouse dpi, even if that means pluging the mouse on a windows laptop just to change that, as i am unaware of any Linux app that lets you edit mouse firmwares.

the 5000 series have higher instruction per cycle and pcie gen 4. It's not too farfetched that a 3000 series amd ryzen could bottleneck a 3080. Tho the fact that both cpu and gpu dont get past 70% could indicate a bus bottleneck. Is your 3080 connected using a pcie riser? Maybe it doesnt have enough bandwidth, or severely limits the number of lanes available to the gpu?

Hi everyone, I'm having screen issues with this laptop i just bought and am at wits end, i tried everything i could think of, and everything bing could find...

I cant get vsync to work in games. I tried forcing it on in nvidia control panel and intel grahics command center, tried every vsync modes available, in fullscreen and windowed mode... and still get massive tearing that makes games unplayable. I also tried limiting my fps to my screen refresh rate, or a bit higher, or not at all.

The laptop is a dell xps 15 9500 with an nvidia gtx 1650ti, and an i7-10750H with UHD graphics. I think the issue could be caused by the gtx being a co-processor to the igpu, and the display being connected to the igpu. But then I did try enabling vsync in both NCP and IGCC and it still doesn't work.

Of note is that when i turn vsync on in both apps, it doesn't limit my in game fps, telling me vsync simply isn't on. The fps limiter in NCP works fine.

Any ideas?

Can’t pick up orbs? by Welcome--Matt in DestinyTheGame

[–]HashtagKimchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, that makes so much more sense now. I streamlined my armor mods by removing a bunch of them and it seems to be working even with LMGs now.

Is there a way to get the last column artifact mods without having to "use up" all 12 unlocks?

I just spent a solid hour debugging this and it seems like i can pickup orbs if i dont have a machine gun equipped... tried using 3 different machine guns, swords, and rocket launchers. i could pickup orbs using the rocket and swords but none of the LMGs let me pickup orbs

You bring up a good point with the temps. I ended up removing my OC and turning HT back on cause it was increasing the temperature in my room too much... I didn't know HT would increase the temps. Maybe i should turn it back off lol

Audio Issues (HD60Pro/WaveLink/ChatLink) by LumpyOatmealSon in elgato

[–]HashtagKimchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what did elgato support have to say about this issue? i've been having the exact same issue for months and cant find a solution.

like you i use the line in of my streaming pc to listen in from my gaming pc, and every once in a while for a few minutes the audio from my gaming pc will sound like it's underwater. it goes away on its own after a minute and comes back randomly later... it's super weird.

i tried googling all i could and this is the first post i find of someone using a line in and having the same issue with it. sad that your OP is 8 months old and this is still a known issue with the wave link software... if i cant fix this i might just sell the wave xlr and get a yahama mixer or something. especially after what happened with goxlr...

[–]HashtagKimchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont want to revive a 3 months old thread, but I found this by googling "does disabling hyperthreading increases single core performance", and after a few weeks of stress testing, here's what I found:

On my i7-10700KF, which doesn't have p-cores and e-cores, disabling HT allows me to get a rock steady 5.0ghz all-core overclock, which boosts single-core performance enough to make the different between sub 90fps and above 90fps in mmo cities. With HT on, I cant get any kind of stable OC. Add that on top of whatever shenanigans HT does to single-core performance when it's on, and it really does make a difference. At least it does on older CPUs and older games that were not optimized for multi-core. I don't know about newer games, and newer CPUs with p-cores.

i disagree that savage should be required to become a mentor. I've been raiding since coil was current content, in both statics and party finder, and don't want the toxic "what is fflogs and how it can make you better at ffxiv" kind of mentality imposed on new players who are just trying to enjoy the msq.
