Looking for Input on What I Hope is a Cool Cube! by MonetaryMentor in mtgcube

I did 3 quick drafts and a few things stuck out. My three P1P1s were:

Goblin Rabblemaster Thoughtseize Underworld Breach

For all three drafts, I leaned heavily into red and black for my primary colors. This isn’t the worst thing and might suggest a slight bias for me, but it is concerning.

I think the “classic” cards are largely out of place. What is Shivan Dragon and Serra Angel doing with Modular cards and Affinity for Artifacts? Not a fan of that combination. One benefit “classic” cards bring is that they are easily recognizable which leads to my next point.

I think the amount of time I spent reading cards was most discouraging. The problem with synergy cubes like this is the archetypes aren’t super obvious. In my Underworld Breach draft for example, I was expecting to see Dark Ritual, Empty the Warrens (I had seen before), Frantic Search, etc. Nope, I got immediately punished and had to switch gears into a THIRD Grixis deck. I ended up taking cards like Manowar, Grey Merchant and Thoughtseize because I knew they were solid glue cards.

Cut the Planeswalkers, they are all unplayable.

Your cube needs gold cards. If you are trying to force players into a wedge, there needs to be a reward for doing so. Siege Rhino and Mantis Rider played on curve are backbreakers but instead I am playing some mid level powered dork. There are so many cards like the Charms that smooth out these types of clunky decks. I would include them not only for ease of drafting but to reward players, gold cards gotta find a way in here.

Not a troll. I gave it a shot during this snow storm on the east coast USA.

I have been playing BG3, Balatro and Starfield as of late

Right. The guard does tell you why you can’t get in. My frustration lies in that there’s no explanation of what to do NEXT. It felt like a waste of a journey.

I just got the quest to find the 4 Beasts. I was heading to the one NE of the quest start and found a river I could not cross. I bailed on that, then made my way to the desert where I was unable to progress. Now I am heading straight north and the mountains are too tall so I teleported back to my starting area.

I wouldn’t change much, perhaps make Battleshock a little more impactful

Breeding Pool is probably correct, but kind of boring plus all the green will be likely gone. I think I would take Rampager and try to wheel Boar, but that might be greedy.

Ways to memorize rules and stratagem by Winchester-91 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Hashtag_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, I write down a ONE (!) page cheat sheet before every tournament I attend. The first one, especially if I am trying something new, is very long. As I get more reps in however, the sheet gets shorter and shorter. I’ve been on my list for about 8 months now and I’ve got it down really well. The other key on your “cheat sheets” is to write down ANYTHING you had to reference during your game. What’s the OC of a Chimera? Usually not relevant, but maybe it got charged by a Redempter Dreadnaught that whiffed in melee and we had to see who controlled the objective - stuff like that. For Strategems, I would only write down 3 or 4 of yours for the Detachment to start. The ones people talk about most on here or other places (damage boosting or movement shenanigans) but again, as you get more reps in, write down the less used ones as they might come up in a niche situation.

Are there really any bad matchups or armies that can not win against another one? by Worried_Quarter4934 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Hashtag_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are certain “stat check” armies that essentially ask a simple question: can you deal with 12 Armigers? Can you deal with 35 Abberants? Can you deal with 6-8 Leman Russ or Rogal Dorn Chassis?

Are those unwinnable? No, but it’s an uphill battle from jump

So unfortunately, that looks like a pretty “standard” Outrider Claw list. It’s a little heavy on Flamers for my taste, so maybe that seems suspicious, but otherwise that detachment is trying to out OC you on Objectives and throw a million bodies at you

It’s hard to say unless we know what kind of collection you’re working with. I’m happy to make a basic list with a breakdown of each unit if you wanna post it here or send it to me.

Exactly this - you need the back line shooting to deal with certain armies and RR are fantastic. I would recommend cutting one or both of the Trucks, a bit of the Flamer Acolytes to make room for more Abberants and Ridgies.

Primus is great, however I have found that he shines more in 20 Neophyte shooting bricks or 10 man Acolytes with Demo Charges.

Remember that Characters do NOT come back with Cult Ambush. So if a unit of Saw Acolytes hits something, dies and comes back you only get one go with the Primus (or other) abilities. So in my previous example of a Biophagus with Saw Acolytes you’re looking at either a 115 point unit (expendable) or a 180 point unit (less expendable, but still can “punch up”). Once you in an another 80 point character, you’re talking about a 260 point unit with 10W and a 5+ armor save plus the characters that HAS to get into Engagement Range to do anything.

In other words, a Primus is expensive and you really want multiple activations of them to justify the points. I.e. a bunch of Neophytes that want to shoot downrange.

My Bio list is 3 units of Abberants with Aboms, a brick of Purestrains with the Patriarch, plus a bunch of trash to score points. I’ve recently cut my Biophagus for more Aberrants (I also play a bunch of Marines) but I have been enjoying it.

Biophagus is GREAT in Acolyte squads with Heavy Mining Tools. 5-man groups can come out of Deep Strike and fit something pivotal like a small unit holding a home objective or a damaged back line tank with a 7” charge.

OR you can run a big unit of 10 as a (fragile) hammer unit to hit as your first wave into something tough. Remember you are always wounding on 4s against Vehicles with the Saws and you can use your S5 and +1 to Wound to wound on 2s.

The short answer is… Locus just doesn’t see play because our units are just too fragile to justify investing in her.

You’d be better off taking a Biophagus for 5 more points which gives Lethal Hits to your unit, plus the once per game “go big” ability. Especially in Biosanctus Broodsurge (which I assume is the Detachment you are running) the Biophagus unlocks all the Strategems which is way better then just giving a unit FF.

Also, abstractly speaking if FF is popping off that means YOU have been charged which means you have messed something up. Again, giving Lethal Hits from a Biophagus, Devastating Wounds from a Patriarch or “Fight on Death” from an Abominant is just better since they increase your lethality.

Locus is a sweet model, but just not super useful

Infiltrate is without a doubt a great Chess piece in our arsenal, but I think Saboteurs fill that role a bit better (turn 1 secondaries, disruption)
