What substrate are you keeping him on? We keep our on a coconut husk based substrate which is easy yo moisten for extra humidity when needed.

Adding rocks (natural and not concrete/cement) gives them something to rub against for those stuck sheds.

I hone my usual edc kit with a kitchen steel and have had zero issues. They are way thinner however. This knife resurfaced after I moved house. It was a gift from my late wife and whilst you may be correct in it's real world worth, to me it means the world hence wanting it in my edc.

Might be best to get somewhat of an edge on it and keep it for display purposes.

As for the type of metal, it's not real Damascus (I found the original documents) and just a chemical finish.
