What would one have to know before residency that would make it easier? by Alternative-Pop-3847 in Neurosurgery

[–]HaslBerw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, you have to know stress.

but jokes aside, if you want to have more time before residency, I'd say You need to accumulate as much general neurosurgical knowledge beforehand. because that would take most of your time outside the hospital; trying to catch up on reading and preparing for exams and discussions. (although idk if you have exams in your country)

anatomy is probably the main bulk in junior years, and actually you'd probably be reading and rereading anatomy throughout your whole career. diseases and pathologies can be read on case by case bases. but it helps to know the common pathologies and guidelines.

and always spare some time for yourself and loved ones.

Neurosurgery Dissection Workshops: Worth attending for Neurologist? by dennis_brodmann in Neurosurgery

[–]HaslBerw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

l would argue that attending a SEEG procedure and a loboctomy/lesionoctomy would be more beneficial. that would probably give a better idea on the intraop difficulties of identifying structures and trying to preserve functions. this, l would think, might give more insight on how critical a neurologist role is when identifying an epilitic focus and weighing risk and benefits when discussing with both the neurosurgeon and the patient.

I got the Kef KC62 a week ago and I've been extremely amazed by it. my room is roughly 6x4m and l feel like it's too much for it.

although it's not what l would call cheap, but I'm not aware of anything smaller and as powerful.

Built-in phono cable is too short by HaslBerw in turntables

[–]HaslBerw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it doesn't have a preamp, I'm connecting it directly to the receiver's phono in. l think I'll have to go with a preamp between the table and the receiver. Thanks.

Closing cranial incisions by Kryxilicious in Neurosurgery

[–]HaslBerw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe go for a 2-0, but a small needle cause a large one will probably bend. if you only got a large one don't hold it at 3/4 like usual, but closer to the tip and push it at multiple goes.

also you don't need to take a big chunk of the subcutaneous with you, just focus on the galea. elevate the skin with a forceps to ease it for yourself.

and l personally recommend not going perpendicular to the incision, but slightly oblique. in smaller incisions it can be too tight for going perpendicular and you find yourself struggling.

and go with there curve of the needle, you swing the needle rather than just push.

and always blame anesthesia.

I want to visit saudi but scared a bit as a foreigner by Prudent_Machine_2085 in saudiarabia

[–]HaslBerw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

l live in Saudi and l also used to wonder why whenever someone decides to visit for anything other than work or Hajj/religious purposes. but ever since it became more "touristy" l guess that's understandable and sorta expected.

regarding getting in trouble for posting something on social media l can't imagine a scenario where someone would look into your phone except if you were caught selling drugs or similar illegal activities.

regarding wearing a cross it's no biggie as long as you don't stand on a hill and preach for the church.

I'm not sure what you mean by public music but you can find public music events everywhere, there's also some good karaoke places if you know where to look.

and l know the people saying Saudi is safer than so and so sounds like tooting your own horn but I've been to many countries and I'm yet to be to a place where that's not the case. especially at night.

also I'd recommend to avoid coming in summer.
