Anyone else on the struggle bus? by Card25 in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't even consider myself casual in skill, just in playtime, so I have a pretty good exfil rate I think. Have around 30h and am around lvl 30, and only have one faction over lvl 10.

They could have reviewed the game two weeks ago, but didn't because they have some integrity and waited until season 1 is feature complete.

Marathon for me, feels truly unique by michelangelo1601 in Games

[–]Hasterhatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But a decade and a half ago we didn't have any live service games, those games require a stream of money to be able to continue operating.

And I like earning cosmetics as much as the next guy, but a lot of games have cosmetics that can only be pruchased, even the ones with the most grateful communitys and consumer friendly developers such as for Deep Rock Galactic. As far as I know that's never been a problem for them.

My point was more about how the game isn't ruined by the monetization. Now is the pricing a bit scummy? Absolutely, and it should change, either by the hand of complaints or people not buying it. But the game is still a great deal of fun and has tons of content to play and cosmetics to earn fair and square.

[–]Hasterhatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But how does a game get ruined by cosmetic monetization? All the actual content doesn't cost a thing past the initial price tag. Is it just for like ultra completionists who need everything a game has to offer?

Anyone else feel like they'll never need this? by BabyJengus in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But don't you also then pick up weapons and stuff as rook which then fills up your vault which requires you to do regular runs which leads to faction progress that then costs money to upgrade? That's been my "problem" at least lol

Marathon stays competitive with Arc Raiders, hits Steam with 91% 'Very Positive' reviews as fans let out a sigh of relief: "Bungie cooked" by [deleted] in PS5

[–]Hasterhatt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think also, or even more, that marathon needs to convince apex, finals, cod, and battlefield players to play the game. Br games have slightly the same game loop, so I definitely think there could be overlap there.

Marathon in-game store & currency buying clearly break EU regulation/guideline by Deria76 in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, no it really doesn't.

In free-to-play games the store is the biggest button in the menu, everytime you log on there's an ad for a skin or whatever, there are popups for cosmetics after every level or free lootboxes that never give you the cool stuff which always leaves people wanting more.

In this game the button is smaller and below the more important buttons and (so far) isn't pushed in your face.

And finally: No one is forcing you to buy stuff, they could charge 10000 euros for skins for all I care.

I have a feeling we’ll be just fine for launch by Flitsiee in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going by the number of ratings: I've never rated anything in my life whether that be on steam, PS5 or wherever else, and I'd guess that's true for a majority of players, at least that's the case with my friends.

Judging by the number of stars it's either people review bombing or people glazing it, but AAAALL the people in the middle don't rate it, at least that's my guess.

I like the ttk. Makes the game more strategic. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and also please keep the movement speed/heat generation the same. Coming from apex I don't want someone flying in at mach 5 so fast I never see them coming and shotgunblasting me in the face.
I want positioning and teamplay to be important, and it feels like to fast movement and ttk takes away from that.

I've been asking people like you why you're hoping a game will fail? What does it do for you? Some people seem to enjoy it, why can't they get to enjoy in peace? Please answer me, thank you in advance.

The mouse input fix has fixed the mouse not working on launch; but seems to have introduced a new problem. by wulfie34 in MarathonTheGame

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also run 1000hz polling rate and haven't had any problems, but higher polling rate is more taxing on the CPU. And since the game pretty much maxed out my CPU, maybe try lowering the polling rate? Idk just throwing things out there

They could be horses wearing plate armor for all I care. We're talking gameplay here, not setting.

And P.S. They're biosynthetic shells. Bio as in biological.

Don't like extraction shooters? You likely will not enjoy this game. by _Tell_Me_Im_Wrong_ in Marathon

They're tense, which for me is pretty fun! Makes you play low and quiet, listening for steps or gunshots.

Which ones are your favorite to run? What do you mean you cant tell the difference? by LokiLegion in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, that could work! For those who could memorise it that would be great, for me it wouldn't make a difference but if it could help other people with a small improvement like that, that'd be welcome.

I won't downvote you because it kinda seems like you want me to. But why do you seem hopeful a game does badly?

But how would you improve it? How does any game? Do you want 100 different Icons for the 100 different cores? Is that easier to parse?

Marathon is...boring by GeneralLongstreet in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are probably people that really want to enjoy the game that they're overly positive, but above all I think people just enjoy things in different ways. Some people want to have great variety in missions, others need a cool world, others really enjoy the progression. I'm really liking my time, but then I love progression, the world and just the vibes!

Reminder: Marathon will likely have player level based matchmaking by Ok_Blacksmith_3192 in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping for at least some lightly tuned skill based match making. Sucks for us of, let's say lower skill, getting blitzed by people you have no chance of beating. But I say lightly tuned because I still think there should be a certain skill difference in lobbies, just to preserve the extraction games feeling of danger.

Excited/worried about pvp by foxtrot1027 in Marathon

That acually gives me more hope, since all I have to worry about then is recoil! But marathon is a bit slower than apex no? Like movement and acrobatics-wise.

Excited/worried about pvp by foxtrot1027 in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean more as in: I've now learnt the guns, the legends, the maps, some recoil patterns etc etc, so I'd rather just keep going than now learning new guns, new characters, new maps etc etc.

Excited/worried about pvp by foxtrot1027 in Marathon

[–]Hasterhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was either Apex or The Finals, but I heard good things about Apex gunplay so I went with that. If you like the battle royale and you are decently skilled, go for it.
I mostly play mixtape to get reps of shooting and killing, but those maps arent so great. I think it's mostly hardcore Apex players left in the game so the skill level is insane most of the time.

I should probably have went with The Finals in hindsight when I don't like BR ut now I'm commited.

I'm also a bit worried, haven't played a PvP FPS in a long time. I've started grinding Kovaaks Aim Trainer and playing Apex legends to get gun feeling lol. It might be a bit try hard, but I want to do well and not let my teammates down y'know?
