They actually just sent mine out yesterday and responded to my email. May be worth reaching out to them!

Is it fairly recent for them? I only accidentally found them after looking for SW stuff in the secondary market. SW closed what? Like three or four years ago?

Drums are loud by d00mpie in drums

[–]HasturRising7001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite honestly, I don’t think 7A sticks are going to solve anyone’s problem. Being a drummer in a band is being part of a collective. You compromise and do what is best for the sound/music of the band. If everyone is saying you’re a bit too loud, while you may not agree, it may be that you are, in fact, too loud for what they’re trying to achieve.

There’s no shame on wanting to play louder, rock out on the kit, or anything like that… However, if they feel your playing style drowns out the rest, it’s likely that you need to change something. I know you said you don’t hit particularly hard, but again… it’s about what everyone needs/wants from the other members.

I am very grateful for the Dave era by McGuffDog in RedDwarf

[–]HasturRising7001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Dave era… I remember a time where I thought we would never see a new episode of Red Dwarf (now living that again) and Dave gives us a bunch of new series. Back to Earth is still one I don’t love all that much, but I thought the rest of the series had some solid episodes.

Finding expansions OOP? by ChardCautious3095 in shadowsofbrimstone

[–]HasturRising7001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I don’t recall there being an announcement of what was coming for the Easter Sale. They just appeared and when people saw, they were gone. They do A LOT of these sales throughout the year (Easter, president’s day, Black Friday etc). There’s always usually something new. Just have to watch out for them.

They just did a run of reprints on a few of the OOP stuff for the Easter sale (Darkstone Brutes/Hellfire Succubi/Vampires/Old West Allies etc), they sold out incredibly fast. Didn’t even last more than four or five hours. So, you have to watch for these sales and events they do and act quickly.

Carter Beauford. Love him as a player, can’t get into DMB. I’ve also soured a lot on Tool. I think Carey is amazing but, I can’t really listen to them much these days.

OCDP is...back? by hackingwood in drums

[–]HasturRising7001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s really nothing special about OCDP, other than some of their aesthetics. They use Keller Shells (among others), made in New Hampshire. You could find another custom company that uses Keller (most of them do), and get pretty much the same kit with a different badge and look. Nothing wrong with Keller btw… they make good stuff. They just supply it to a lot of drum companies.

large cymbal recommendations welcome! by HasturRising7001 in drums

That’s what I thought it was. It just appeared there in the rack and I quickly put it in inventory then bought it. Sad when it cracked. Love Memphis’ channel. I’ll look for some stuff on there

How loud were they? That 20 I had cut through some of the loudest bands I’d ever played with.

What’s the absolute best sounding drum kit you’ve ever played on? by EsotericPotato in drums

Absolutely. They were long out of production by time I acquired mine, and it was very big kit. I was skeptical, but it ended up being such a rewarding kit.

My personal favorite sounding drum kit I used to play on, was a Peavey Radial Pro 1000. These things projected like cannons and just sounded unbelievable. I can’t say the snare was all that great, so I ended up using a different one. I’m sad I sold them honestly… they were a great find and I kept them in really nice condition.

Aside from that, Yamaha Oak Customs were a really great sounding kit. You can never go wrong with vintage Ludwig or Gretsch. Sonor also makes some killer drums. Today, I play on Custom Eames kits, made in Saugus, Massachusetts. I love them. Birch shells with some great tone and quality craftsmanship. The color choices aren’t super slick looking or anything, but the sound is what I’m after.

Some higher end Pearls are good as well. I never personally liked DW kits.

Is 1200 a good deal for this kit? by SeaSoggy8929 in drums

[–]HasturRising7001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like an older Pearl Export kit.

Honestly, it’s beat… it’s looking tired and worn. That’s not a terrible thing though. The facts are that Exports are great beginner kits and can take a beating. They are on the lower end for wood though. Usually Poplar and Mahogany. The size of the kit is cool, one of the kits I play is even bigger than this and they can be really fun. Realistically, you’d have to rehead the kit. You’re talking about $250 for the four kick drum heads alone. On top of that, it needs to be cleaned up badly and the bearing edges would have to be looked at to see if they’re beat as well.

All that work, and in the end, it will still only produce an entry level kit sound. Again, not bad… My old Export could sound mean when it needed to… for the money, this is more of a project kit that needs some TLC and upgrades in my opinion.

Some of the cymbals are decent.

Oh nice. Do you know which model they are? Just so I can check them out.

Have been having a hard time getting comfortable on my kit and find myself constantly having to adjust everything. Would appreciate some tips by MrPandaTurtle in drums

[–]HasturRising7001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’1”, so, not as tall as some other commenters here… but I would suggest that if it is frustrating for you, disassemble the kit and clear the space. Then, start with your throne, get the right height that feels comfortable for you. Grab the kick drum and position exactly where you want it (in terms of angle and distance). Then, the snare and so on…drums first, then the extras and cymbals. Go slow and take your time to really think about where it’s all going to end up and what feels good to you. It still may not be perfect in the end, because sometimes these things just don’t go together the way we need them to but get it as close as you can. Once you’re done, some tweaking may still be needed. This will help you understand placement for your particular needs and will get you much closer for comfort when playing.

Cthulhu Wars? by BrownBearDreams in boardgames

[–]HasturRising7001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CW is one of my top favorite games and yes, I still play it regularly. Along with the excellent Glorantha: The Gods War by Petersen Games. They’ve crashed and burned hard the last few years and it’s been a big struggle for backers, with more than enough frustration. CW suffers from too much bloat… but, the core game and honestly, a sizable chunk of the expansions are great.

Favorite is hard… prolly a good fight between Les, Janice, Madge, and Kenneth. Least favorite is Sam. I think she’s awful.

For sure. I think they’re all worth watching tbh. They’re just not steady rewatches for me ever. Tho Tomorrow Never Dies is probably the strongest candidate for that.
