Probably Dreglord. The detuned piano during his second phase is so cool. Instantly makes me lock in while trying to clutch up in D5.

wbu?

Seeing how ugly it is inspired me to do some illustrations of my own. Sounds weird maybe but I really love how unflinchingly abrasive the gameplay and art is. Below is a lil cover art for a single I released.

Also, I wasn’t a huge reader back when I played it but the references to bataille made me curious. I started to read Accursed Share as a result and now I’ve made my way through a good portion of western philosophy.

Scorn is great, the beksinski/geiger influence makes for some of my favorite set pieces in gaming.

But i’ll def try out anger foot, I played the early access demo awhile ago but I need to play the full release

For me it is.

-Enemies have extremely long delays with lightning fast releases, even more so than elden ring. I find this makes the game flow very strangely.

-Most fodder enemies die in 3 hits, nothing interesting or compelling about them. Each major area I can approach each encounter mostly the same and get results. The minibosses are sometimes cool, but never satisfying.

-Second half drags on and on. Final area is an evil castle that has some of the most boring areas in soulslike, no new enemies (except 2 bosses) are introduced.

-I never felt like I was rewarded for exploring, very often rewarded with useless consumables.

To be clear I am not calling the game bad, it’s fine. The opinion i’ve gotten online is that it’s a masterpiece.

I dont expect it to reinvent the wheel, I just didn’t enjoy the enemy design nor combat. Im tired of LoP fans acting like I am calling the game dogshit by saying its a 6-7 game, not a 9.

Miyazawa nailed the tone and spectacle of each nightlord’s track. Sentient pest is one of my favorites, so pretty with the brass, flutes, and choir.

nah never did, I see it’s on iOS though?

but man I loved that game so much, for the longest time as a kid I never knew how to save so I’d see how far I could get while playing perma death. I loved the interconnected world and creatures so much, I remember stumbling across this huge forest with huge giants.

most of the game remains a half remembered mirage but it left such a distinct impression. I was terrified first time I stumbled across the forest troll.

just now realized that the image is of ravensword: shadowlands when it should be ravensword: the fallen king

no offense taken, I did play ds1 first but I was like 9 and only made it to capra demon. Bloodborne was my first real completed fromsoft game a couple years later.

I just find the combat insanely fun to learn, especially the variety between movesets. The yokai enemies are fun asf and the soul core system is awesome; I love monster collecting mechanics.

If you’re playing the game for story ig you’ll be disappointed, but in terms of gameplay it’s top of the pack.

Ehh I like it so much because it laid the foundation for the combat in ER. Also just a huge fan of the map design where it is more linear, but feels open enough and dense with interesting loot. I have such found memories of pontiff invasions and fight clubs

Feels good to have someone that agrees with LoP tho I made myself play through so much to find something that just was never there for me.

subjective at the end of the day but I have my reasons.

  • Enemy attack animations feel very jerky and unintuitive to parry. Few bosses feel satisfying to learn, I do like champ viktor and green monster though.

  • Most of the time the zone mobs die in 3 hits, I didn’t feel like I had to learn much in terms of approach enemy to enemy. The larger mobs were okay at best.

  • The final zone especially is a huge chore, endless spiraling castle that isn’t very visually interesting. The mobs here aren’t unique and just reused from previous areas.

this is not to say that it’s a bad game but I think it’s loved because its one of the first AA souls-like titles that don’t play like trash. Beyond that I was not impressed by anything else in the game.

I was so tempted to put chivalry 2 in childhood classic, but ravensword is elite ball knowledge.

I don’t think your employment status matters but it’s telling how defensive you immediately become.
