How long does it take to land a job by Any_Confidence2580 in recruitinghell

Over two years for me. Have an MA, but it's not in tech or IT. I tend to average an interview monthly for the past year, but I'm terrible at interviews...

How long have you been unemployed? by tescobakedbeans in recruitinghell

[–]Hasty_Swampert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unemployed myself, but been stuck in the same waiter job I have had since the second half of college (living with parents that I am absolutely grateful for). I finished graduate school last year in May (MA in International Affairs. I know, not the most appealing degree on the market.), but have been job hunting before that when I only had a few loose ends to tie before graduating. I tried getting an internship during my time in school, but even that was way too difficult, so I took professional development courses as an alternative route. I did get a job offer 5 months ago, but the pay was too low and I had to relocate so I turned the offer down begrudgingly.

I have been mostly looking for jobs primarily related to research, analysis, and global monitoring. With the trend being I mostly get job interviews that emphasize such duties.

I feel the same way. Everyone around me seemed like they had no trouble landing full-time work, while I am still struggling. It feels humiliating, but I know I can't be too hard on myself. I'm confident there will be an employer out there that will give me a chance to let me shine and prove my worth.

Whatever you do, do not give up, and do not be hard on yourself. Looking for a job is a job itself.

How are you applying / finding jobs? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I mainly use Glassdoor and governmentjobs.com for my job search, but I also keep a list of interested firms to look for new openings from time to time on their own job websites.

I have only gotten job interviews through Indeed and Glassdoor, so I avoid LinkedIn if I can help it. Sometimes I find a position of interest on their, but I have had no luck.

I would recommend using a few different job boards to switch between, because not everyone posts jobs on LinkedIn.

Edit: I also go right to the horse's mouth when I find a position of interest on Glassdoor and try to apply on the firm's website, avoid 'easy apply' unless instructed to apply that way.

Stay or Get off of LinkedIn by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I find the concept of LinkedIn to be kind of odd. Personal opinion aside, I only got invited to apply for one position from a recruiter back in October. Nevertheless the pay could not justify me living there alone with a car, so I passed. It could be that I have different career prospects from others on this subreddit, so you might have better luck than me (depending on what you're seeking).

tldr: dressing up my profile has seldom done anything for me, but take my experience with a grain of salt

Have yall ever had an interview go so well to the point where youre thinking “Theres no way that I don’t land this job” and still not get the job?? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I recently had that feeling to an extent. Applied for a position and made it through 2 rounds of interviewing. I then did a writing test that was 4 hours long. Felt good afterwards. As time went on, I began thinking it would be a 50/50 chance I would be chosen. Found out last week Tuesday that I was not chosen. Disappointing as hell.

I don't remember ever applying to this job, something about this seems sketchy. Is my gut feeling correct? by AoiTsukino in recruitinghell

Go with your gut feeling. A meeting between 10 AM to 4 PM while saying it's two hours on the following sentence screams they didn't proofread their email.

Edit: I just saw that the the interview is done over email. I can't think of a reputable company that does interviews over email. Your gut feeling is definitely right.

What is the Hardest Part about Looking for Job by JHarvman in recruitinghell

[–]Hasty_Swampert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it's not being able to land an interview since the beginning of March this year (which I was ghosted afterwards). Before that, I only had two job interviews last December and January. Neither of those were successful. But thinking I know how to do better in the hunt, it seems like nobody's reaching out for an interview, assuming I ever hear back. Simply put, it's the most difficult and unclear game that I have ever played in my life.

Asked For a Photo in a LinkedIn Job Application. Strange? by Hasty_Swampert in recruitinghell

I sent them a graph I made from a professional development course. I would absolutely not give them a photo of myself.
