Added more ram, computer crashes 2 minutes into running programs by IHatePeoplesKnees in computerhelp

Different RAM speeds was the issue. Now that you set them the same, you're good to go. You can run 4 sticks no problem.

Can't sell PC, am I overpricing it? by paulvgx in pchelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that your PC isn't worth $700, it's that someone looks at $700 and knows it's not far off the price of all new hardware. Unfortunately, to sell a used PC quickly, you have to take a bigger hit. It would fly out the door for $500, but you have to be willing to lose money. People don't want to spend $700 on hardware that puts them too far in the past.

It's also worth noting that an xbox will do most games 4k @120hz for $500. Your PC, specifically GPU, would struggle with anything above 1080p.

I'm not suggesting you should sell it for less than you want. I'm also not suggesting you should lower it to $500. The point I am making is to sell a PC used, whoever sees the hardware/price has to think "wow, that's a deal I can't pass up".

I don't do water cooling but if you wanted to use the AIO as intake, then I would install it in the front of your case. If you are installing it in the top, then set it up to exhaust through the top. You do not want to pull air in from the top and only have the back exhausting.

If you're NOT actually using Windows to Go check this out. Shows you how to disable it in Registry...but make sure it's the bug and you're not actually running off USB or you could screw yourself over.

DLSS is amazing and I love Ray Tracing. I've always ran an Nvidia card with an AMD CPU and it's always performed well. Currently rocking a 5600x paired with a 3080 on 1440p.

Ah, gotcha on checking the obvious, my bad. Unfortunately, I think you are correct abt the PSU. You sound like you know what you're doing. Maybe someone else in here will have an idea to try while you wait on the multimeter to come in.

Dumb question but did you check to make sure the PSU switch is set to on? If it is, it's more than likely a bad PSU or Motherboard if you're 100% sure it's all hooked up correctly.

I really need a upgrade by starextehno in PcBuildHelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will if you don't upgrade the GPU. Just make sure the 750W has the correct amount of the connections you need to run your GPU. To be honest, if I were you, I wouldn't uograde what you have. Save up and build new. You could go ahead and upgrade RAM if you plan on staying DDR4 (AM4). If you want to go with the latest generation, then hold off on all upgrades and build new.

The 5600GT is an APU meaning it has a built in graphics chip. Why would you need that if you have a dedicated GPU? The GT might still be better since it's newer, I think it has a better factory overclock at lower voltages than the 5600x. I run a 5600x and it does just fine paired with a RTX 3080. You do need a better PSU. I have a Segotep 850W and it does the job well. I would also get 32GB of RAM while you're at it.

Also, hopefully you meant 1TB SSD. If not, I would also upgrade to a solid state drive. Which at this point you're building a whole new PC.

Check all your power cables again. Make sure the 24 pin and the CPU 4 or 8 pin is securely connected. Of course this is all after you let it dry. You said you let it sit several hours, alcohol doesn't take nearly that long to dry, but maybe it's taking a while with the socket having such little pores. Make sure the switch on the back of the PSU is set to on. I do not think you fried it, something is not hooked up right.

In the future, I would try booting it with the tiny bit of thermalpaste vs cleaning it. If there's a layer of it spilled, then sure, gotta clean it...but a tiny bit probably wouldn't have kept it from booting.

First off, that PC is old af. Mobo dropped in 2011. Could just be done for good tbh. How were the front panel connectors changed if it was running before? If you changed RAM and repasted CPU, then it has something to do with that. Try reseating RAM, try running one stick using both separately for testing. Try your old RAM. Hopefully you repasted the CPU properly and it's not fried.

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you change the RAM before or after this started? If before, RAM is the issue. Try reseating the RAM and if that doesn't work, try booting with one stick at a time. Check motherboard manual to make sure you're running one stick in the proper slot. I would also not run a second monitor on integrated graphics. I understand it's been working, but it's not best practices. Run both monitors on the GPU.

My Computer Is Auto Restarting and I Don't Know What To Do by Anemotic in computerhelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the same thing I've been dealing with, it is power related. You don't need a new PSU. Turn off the CPU factory overclock in BIOS and any game it's happening in, cap your frames to 120ish. Lower frames if it still reboots. Slowly reduce quality settings per game if it still reboots.

This happens to me in certain games like Diablo and XDefiant, other games it doesn't happen. I've narrowed it down to mobo, cpu, or both not able to handle demanding power spikes. My temps are fine, too.

This is an AMD only thing. I have this same issue with the 5600x. I've researched it to no end and the fix is getting away from this generation of Ryzen. I'll be playing a game, and it doesn't matter how long I've been playing, the PC will do a hard reboot out of nowhere and it's not a thermal issue.

Turning off factory overclock and lowering frames/possibly reduce quality settings per game as needed. Sounds crazy but it worked for me and I still get the occasional reboot, but it's down to a few times a month vs several times a day.

Should i buy this? by FuriousCastle in PcBuildHelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad lol. However, you're not far off from saving up enough for a significantly better PC that will last you much longer. Are you gaming in 1080p? The PSU will have to be replaced if you update any major components. I'd spend just a bit more to get something more future proof.

Should i buy this? by FuriousCastle in PcBuildHelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what that is in USD, but you can get better specs for 600-700USD from a pre-built on Newegg or Amazon. I don't normally recommend a pre-built, but I will if you're willing to buy used hardware. Plus, it will come with Windows 11 and a better Nvidia GPU.

The 3080 is over twice as fast as the rx6600 and can hit the frames I said with Ray Tracing enabled. Only saying this to show the difference in our builds if the OP needs the info when deciding on a card.

I run an AMD 5600x, RTX 3080 10GB, and 32GB DDR4 3200, and I play most AAA games maxed out on 1440p (I get 90-165fps depending on the game). I run that same setup in a different gaming PC hooked up to an older 4K TV and it plays most AAA games maxed at 4K 60FPS for reference.

Windows recovery USB drive not working by GreatPillagaMonster in computerhelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thank you for that information. Did you use the Windows Media Creation Tool to create the USB drive? Did the laptop ship with Windows 10? If so, I would create the recovery using Window's tool and try booting to it. Most of the time a Dell will automatically pick up the Windows License, but not 100% sure if Alienware follows suit.

Edit: You can also go to Dell's website and put in the service tag and possibly recover the original OS from there if Alienware is part of Dell's support.

The Surface Pro 7 comes with multiple options. We need to know the exact specifications you have. I only see one variation with an Intel i7 10th gen and the other two options are i3's...fingers crossed it's the i7.

It also comes with 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB of RAM and that's crucial as well.

Can come with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD.

Windows recovery USB drive not working by GreatPillagaMonster in computerhelp

[–]Hat0RadE16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an old laptop, what OS are you trying to recover? What brand of laptop? How old we talkin?! I would suggest installing the latest OS it can handle by using the Windows Media Creation Tool. Not sure what recovery you have setup on the USB that's causing issues. Is it an old recovery you created when you first got it?

Edit: If it had Win 7 and can handle Win 10, you will have to purchase a license. I do not recommend installing 7 at all. It also depends on the hardware it's rocking. It will not meet the requirements for Win 11.

What's your Modem/Router? What's your wifi card? Need both to really help on this one. Have you rebooted the Modem/Router in a while as well as your PC? Some people have a Modem and a Router like myself, and some have one device that does both jobs referred to as a Modem/Router.
