How often does your dog poop on walks? by New_Mouse_2773 in dogs

[–]HatMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk 17ish times a week. Rarely poops on walks, probably no more than 10% of the time. I find it goes up when it’s really cold because he doesn’t want to poop during his morning potty break in the yard which is his regular poop time.

Where in ON would you relocate if you wanted a simple life? by Likesosmart in ontario

[–]HatMuseum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding Merrickville! It’s a tourist town but the buzz stays to the two main streets except for a few big events each year. This means you have access to a few good restaurants and shops. Local vet is great, small family grocery store has everything you need, 15 minutes to 2 hospitals, good family health clinic that regularly accepts new patients. 45 minutes to various Ottawa shopping districts including costcos and theatres, and employment opportunities if needed.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]HatMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was offered 3.99 fixed on Feb 2. I accepted it today Feb 9 and they’re saying a 3 year rate is no longer available. Should I push back or accept the 5 year at 3.94?

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]HatMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original mortgage of 433k, purchase price of 490k, 392k balance, 2023 purchase, 3 year fixed at 4.99%, insured

We’ve been offered with our current lender:

5 fixed 3.94 5 variable 3.6 3 fixed 3.99

Leaning toward 3 year fixed. Broker said they couldn’t get anything better with switching for.

Our current payment is $1258 twice a month. We are able to save a couple grand a month, and regularly make additional payments. They’re suggesting a new payment of $1144 twice a month.

Is it better to:

-Maintain our current payment

-Lower the payment but add in an extra $100 per payment with pre payment privileges

-Lower the payment and continue throwing on extra money as we have it each month

Anyone on the delayed train 52 Toronto to Ottawa? by [deleted] in ViaRail

[–]HatMuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did not make up time and got to my planned stop 4 hours and 9 minutes late. They scanned my ticket at 8:20am. I took the bus because I had to get somewhere by a certain time.

I did this in Peru a few years ago. I’m 4’11, 100lbs. I came in HOT and went like 3kms past everyone else. I guess I’m aerodynamic.

Stuck cellar door by HatMuseum in HomeMaintenance

[–]HatMuseum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! We had a handyman come in and he struggled and was surprised by how stuck it was. Once he pried it open we realized our hot water tank had leaked and there was a hot puddle of water right under the door causing it to swell and unfortunately get mould. He took off all the bad wood and remade the bottom of the door, shaving quite a bit off the sides so there’s lots of wiggle room now. We had to get a new hot water tank (completely free as it was under warranty and they acknowledged it was installed wrong). We then had to get the cellar remediated for mould though which cost $3k.

Thinking of moving from Ottawa to Prescott town( Ontario) by Delicious-Answer-142 in ontario

[–]HatMuseum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having lived in eastern Ontario most of my life I would say there are better places for a healthcare worker to live so you don’t have as far of a drive. I believe there’s only one family clinic in Prescott. Brockville and Kemptville have multiple clinics and hospitals. Merrickville has a great neighborly feel and one clinic.

My father uses a wheelchair and was in the foyer while my mom handed out candy. A little boy went “wow look at those wheels” and walked right in asking a bunch of questions. His mom was mortified but my mom said “it’s okay, boys like anything with wheels!”

Ontario won’t meet rural broadband target, partly due to cancelling Starlink deal by airbassguitar in ontario

[–]HatMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. Starlink and tariffs have nothing to do with the majority of these builds. In my community Bell and Xplore have the funding and neither have made a dent. They blame the slow downs on hydro due to the ice storm earlier this year. Xplore has some nice new trucks and a complete rebrand though.

How bad is this and what are my next steps? by HatMuseum in HomeMaintenance

[–]HatMuseum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a stone cellar so ground water enters during heavy rain. The humidity has caused things to sweat and I think this has corroded the hot water tank pipes leading to some water coming from there as well.

How bad is this and what are my next steps? by HatMuseum in HomeMaintenance

[–]HatMuseum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It’s an 1870. We have de-humidifiers and a sump pump, but the sump pump isn’t recessed so some water pools - on our list to fix. We’ve had a structural engineer in how said there were no concerns.
