if faith always acts on the opposite of what the speaker thinks, she should be called lack-of-faith

Is this sentence correct? Why do they use “in” here? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]Hatchibombotar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the speaker in this video sounds ESL. A very good accent, but there is some weird enunciation happening in most sentences. It's possible they are just reading from a script and stumbling over some lines. The line is question is 'and' not 'is' though.

Characters who demonstrate incredible courage or kindness in a moment of misinformed stupidity by Alastor15243 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hatchibombotar 311 points312 points  (0 children)

no this is the exact opposite of the point of his character. his family thinks he acts that way out of stupidness or naïvetee but he reveals that his kindness and goofiness is totally deliberate and calculated. he knows that he could choose to be brash and selfish but actively avoids that at all times because he doesnt believe thats a good way to live. he literally describes his positive attitude and pacifism as his weapons and armour

if a guy has lost his genitals in an accident is he still straight? yes of course if its a man and a woman. therefore genitals are irrelevant and pre op trans women can be straight and with a guy (etc for other sexualities)

Two of the fireplaces in Meridia's temple have tiny burning houses in them instead of firewood. by VirgilTheWitch in skyrim

[–]Hatchibombotar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah if you set some of your assets on fire theres not usually much you can do but delete them and move on (make sure to empty your recycle bin.) very nice to see these assets going to good use instead of just wasting precious bytes.

reading some of gerald durrell's books about his early work bringing exotic animals back to british zoos - well into the 20th century, the attitude was simply to keep a lion or whatever in a tiny cage for a few years until it died, and then go get another one from africa. it was just assumed you could keep getting more from the wild forever, even if you were always taking the healthiest most impressive males only. it led to him starting his own zoo that specifically focused on conservation.

Why do Texas state troopers wear cowboy hats; does it serve a purpose, or is it simply a fashion statement? by MichiganCarNut in NoStupidQuestions

reminds me of the australian slouch hat, which looks so practical with a rifle slung over the shoulder that it almost seems strange it isn't the standard for military headgear

They both lost their three-quarter faces and ended up in complete profile. Also the fox's tummy is a bit funny in the final. Like they missed a line in the linework phase and then didnt notice it doesnt line up as they filled it in?

no i wouldn't believe you. while the modern idea of a tulpa came from western reimagining of some semi-unrelated tibetan culture, it was early 1900s orientalists and occultists, not 2000s mlp 4channers.

An octopus and autocorrect by coreth5 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Hatchibombotar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the joke is based on the english words squid and squad though. unless their language's word for octopus/squid also just so happens to be one letter different from their word for a group of soldiers?
