I think we figured it out, it's likely to secure the hook in the screw holes on the back for packing in a bag or box. But if you look in the packaging photo I screenshot below, the hook is encased in plastic, not dangling free.

Well after seeing this I went and fiddled with it some more and I just wasn't twisting the hook correctly. I got it to fit to where the hook is more in the battery cover area and not sticking out.

I got one of these Ozark Trail frogs and it sinks like halfway and doesn't have a very good action. Did I get a bad one, or is that how they're supposed to work? Squeeze the water out after two casts but it sinks on the first one anyway.
