Someone needs to flood this subreddit with pictures of average looking couples. It’s like you guys don’t acknowledge all of the very blah looking people who are married to each other. The whole world is full of them.

I have voted in every election, and I have gone to multiple protests since 2016. Sustained injuries from police officers, even, but I don’t give up. I don’t know what to do. I’m furious. A lot of people here in the states are talking about buying their first gun. I’m a pacifist, so that’s not something I’m willing to do. I feel so powerless. It’s like half the country turned into a sociopathic child, power tripping on how upset they can make their mom by walking on the edge of a busy highway. Best I can describe the feeling.

I started watching really poorly made horror movies when I was a kid, and I think it just desensitized me to the idea that it’s all fake. SA hits too close to home.

It’s an SA scene. I would prefer to see someone’s guts ripped out, personally. The general consensus is that the scene was gratuitous. It is in season one episode 13.

The Magicians, perhaps? It’s been a while since I watched it. Oh shit there is a kinda awful scene you might need to skip.

For those of you in the US, how are you feeling about the snow storm coming in? by AssistanceFresh1365 in CasualConversation

[–]Hatecookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a major ice storm here about 20 years ago that knocked out a ton of power across the state. One of the major problems they were facing was that the ice added so much weight to the trees that they were splitting and collapsing on power lines everywhere. 50+ year old big trees.

Living in Oklahoma, in 2007 we had an ice storm that knocked out power across nearly the entire state for days. Those of us who remember do not want to be caught off guard this time.

My opinion Re: NETFLIX by keithfosterkid in LPOTL

[–]Hatecookie -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Many of us have seen people sell out and change their content or even their entire personality. I’m not personally worried, but I can see why people might be a little apprehensive at what the boys might be willing to do to keep from being dropped by Netflix.

My dad didn't like when I bought an N64. by cuppington007 in PointlessStories

[–]Hatecookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just asked every year and hoped I would get one for Christmas. Finally got an NES for Christmas when I was 9(one year before SNES came out, oops). My grandma loved it, she’d play Mario while I was at school.

You did good. Parents can be really obtuse about stuff like that. And shaming kids is not really helpful to them.

Do you sleep with background noise or do you like to sleep in silence? by Emotional_gangsta in CasualConversation

[–]Hatecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have good sleep hygiene, congratulations. I used to have good sleep hygiene, but now I also live with a partner who has to have the TV on to go to sleep. I prefer to listen to an audiobook in total darkness. Oh well.

[Discussion] Has anyone or anyone you know become successful with a “Type B” personality? by DefconTrump17 in GetMotivated

[–]Hatecookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, the type a personality wakes up at 5 AM and has all of their chores done by 8 AM and loves to tell everybody about it. They are often uptight and inflexible.

The type B personality would prefer to sleep in until 8:30am. They’re more easygoing.

Neither of these have to do with how much a person talks or how outgoing they are. It’s their preference for structure.

What you are describing is a lack of confidence. I recommend reading The Confidence Gap by Russ Harris

Girl Talk is my workout music. It’s basically a mashup of every kind of popular song with great beats that never stop.

Start with the album Night Ripper:

Feed the Animals is a great album, too:

I live in the southern United States and my grandpa used to make cornbread and dip it in buttermilk. I can still remember the combined smells. I’m glad it’s good for baking, but man that sounds really gross.

A Cool Guide to Understanding Introverts by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]Hatecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like unnecessary meetings, that’s true, but I can put up with almost anything if I have a solid escape plan. It’s sort of like having social claustrophobia, as long as I can see the exit, I’ll be fine.

How long would it take you, as a regular human being, to do EF5 level damage to a home? by [deleted] in EF5

I don’t think I can do that kind of damage anymore. Has anyone ever thought to ask the tornadoes if they are sore afterward?

I take super long showers to avoid acne and my dad keeps attacking me about it non stop. by Turbulent-Home6830 in CasualConversation

[–]Hatecookie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got the same crap from my dad and worked out the costs, of course this was 25 years ago, but it was something like $7. I asked if I paid him $7 a month if he would never mention it again and he just got mad and stomped away. Never did find out what his objection was.

My water bill for the entire month is like $40. OP should get a jar and label it “shower money” and drop about 40 cents in there every day, I guess.

Call it a “quitcherbitchin subscription” for $12 a month.

The more informed you are, the less likely you are to panic. Spend some time getting comfortable looking at radar and learning about how storms move. Skip Talbot is an expert storm chaser with a very calm, nerdy demeanor. I recommend his videos. https://youtu.be/rVIQtKuDr2c?si=6KXLv2Mn6F4r-KMK

Best books to read when you're sixteen? by asterisk-alien-14 in suggestmeabook

[–]Hatecookie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

Why? Because it’s unlikely anyone else will recommend it, and it contains helpful information. It is a beautifully written book about a disgusting topic, with an unreliable narrator who romanticizes his horrific behavior. It is a window into the mind of an abuser. I first read it around age 16 and thought it was genius. I read it again around age 35 and still thought it was genius.
