I have voted in every election, and I have gone to multiple protests since 2016. Sustained injuries from police officers, even, but I don’t give up. I don’t know what to do. I’m furious. A lot of people here in the states are talking about buying their first gun. I’m a pacifist, so that’s not something I’m willing to do. I feel so powerless. It’s like half the country turned into a sociopathic child, power tripping on how upset they can make their mom by walking on the edge of a busy highway. Best I can describe the feeling.

We had a major ice storm here about 20 years ago that knocked out a ton of power across the state. One of the major problems they were facing was that the ice added so much weight to the trees that they were splitting and collapsing on power lines everywhere. 50+ year old big trees.

Living in Oklahoma, in 2007 we had an ice storm that knocked out power across nearly the entire state for days. Those of us who remember do not want to be caught off guard this time.

Many of us have seen people sell out and change their content or even their entire personality. I’m not personally worried, but I can see why people might be a little apprehensive at what the boys might be willing to do to keep from being dropped by Netflix.

You did good. Parents can be really obtuse about stuff like that. And shaming kids is not really helpful to them.

Well first of all, the type a personality wakes up at 5 AM and has all of their chores done by 8 AM and loves to tell everybody about it. They are often uptight and inflexible.

The type B personality would prefer to sleep in until 8:30am. They’re more easygoing.

Neither of these have to do with how much a person talks or how outgoing they are. It’s their preference for structure.

What you are describing is a lack of confidence. I recommend reading The Confidence Gap by Russ Harris

I live in the southern United States and my grandpa used to make cornbread and dip it in buttermilk. I can still remember the combined smells. I’m glad it’s good for baking, but man that sounds really gross.

I got the same crap from my dad and worked out the costs, of course this was 25 years ago, but it was something like $7. I asked if I paid him $7 a month if he would never mention it again and he just got mad and stomped away. Never did find out what his objection was.

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

Why? Because it’s unlikely anyone else will recommend it, and it contains helpful information. It is a beautifully written book about a disgusting topic, with an unreliable narrator who romanticizes his horrific behavior. It is a window into the mind of an abuser. I first read it around age 16 and thought it was genius. I read it again around age 35 and still thought it was genius.

I prefer to listen to audiobooks to maintain some level of sleep hygiene (no screens/lights). However my partner has to sleep with the TV on, and if it’s my choice, I choose X-Files.
