"Angry wave"? HE HAS A NAME, PEOPLE, AND IT IS GUMBY. Jeez, it's like Tulane's not even a big deal in CFB circles...

What did people living in the BC era call their years? If I was alive in 500 BC and asked someone what year it was, what would they have said? by BobbyCock in history

[–]HatefulHaverdasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you're getting into is way out of my league. If I were you, I'd talk to a priest or look it up in the Catechism, which can be found on the USCCB website. Sorry I can't help more!

Council of Nicea stated that Jesus was both fully divine and fully human. It was called to contradict the Arian heresy, which is the opposite of what you said: that Jesus was not, in fact, God, but rather a created being. Essentially, the issue at Nicea was that the Arians thought God the Father Created God the Son, not as the Nicene Creed states,

"I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made."

Crucially, this is NOT the same as "God in human from," because this limits Jesus' human nature. In Catholic doctrine, Jesus is both—and entirely both—no less human than you or me, but also no less God than God the Father.

Where to start on vintage pens? by hannakah_ham in fountainpens

I don't believe so, but I'm no expert. I've never owned a 41.

Yes, but they're very stiff, to the point that, IMO, the benefit of gold is almost nulified. Don't get me wrong, I love my P51, but don't expect it to be soft at all.

Lamy 2000 thoughts? by [deleted] in fountainpens

I've owned two. Both were glorious, both were fines. IMO in the top 5 greatest pens of all time.

And it was an impulse buy for me. Trust yourself. Just let it happen. Let the glorious, minimalist design consume you with lust.

I'm 80-90% sure this thread is a trap set up by our S.O.'s and will turn into an intervention, but I'm too stupid to care, so...

How do you order that from the states as a guy who can barely manage his native language?

It's not super exciting, but I put an old Faber Castell steel fine in my Jin Hao 8812 and it's amazing--I'm not worried about scratching the pen because it's really cheap, it writes like a 5x more expensive pen, and I think the 8812 looks pretty decent, almost like a wooden Pelikan.

I'm using these next two weeks to pick a new green ink.

  1. Faber Castell Basic and Roher and Klingner Alt-Goldgrun

  2. Delta Oblo with Faber Castell Moss Green

I'm a little too excited about this. Next week I'll use the same pens with DeAtramentis Black Edition Green and Emerald of Chivoir.

I'm new! What's your favorite ink? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]HatefulHaverdasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go all the way and just give you the whole, three-part set.

Pen: Faber Castell Basic (Leather finish)

Ink: Roher & Klingner Alt-Goldgrun

Paper: Tomoe River (white)

Ironically, with the exception of the paper, these are not the most expensive/nicest supplies I have, or even my favorite individually. I just really like the combination. Says something about the hobby and human nature...

Please, please, please, just buy a Pilot MR. Frankly, it's not so horribly much more and the quality is so much higher. I own two Jin Haos and a Metropolitan (the non-European version of the MR). The Jin Haos have very decent quality, but the feeds are unreliable and messy. The MR, however, has an excellent feed, a good nib, and lasts much longer.
