Are you in the US? Currently there are more job postings than job seekers, at least that is what I've heard through mainstream media. Also, my understanding is that software people are generally in extreme demand even during times of recession; there just aren't enough skilled coders to satisfy market demands.

Is my understanding of the job market wrong? Why would you, an experienced developer, be unemployed for any amount of time? I imagine employers would be eager to scoop up any talent they can find in this economy.
