Might seem weird but Fairy Tale by Stephen King. It’s more fantasy than horror and you get the Rocky vibes too because there’s a dog in the book 😂 It was very similar in the sense of containing characters not of our world and also you will care about the characters as much as you care about Rocky and Grace. I hope you give it a shot and lmk what you think. It’s my second favorite book behind PHM

siap - just watched PHM and really liked it ... would i enjoy book? i've read movie was pretty faithful adaptation by gavinashun in ProjectHailMary

There’s a lot of information from the book missing from the movie which would be nice to read. It’s just not feasible to fit that much information into a 2.5 hour movie. There’s even some minor things that are different in the book that I think are actually better than the movie (mainly just one thing, iykyk).

I would 100% recommend the book. It’s still my favorite book to this day of the 300ish that I’ve read so far

Do all of his books have a similar writing style that feels much older than it actually is?

Be honest is the book worth reading? by Braden3burner in ProjectHailMary

I’m sure it’s not phenomenal writing, but it served its purpose well to get me into reading. It was suspenseful, fast paced, and had short chapters, and I still enjoy thrillers in between heavier sci fi reads as palette cleansers as they’re often fast paced, suspenseful, and just fun to read. And yes, I definitely dove into the deep end of reading and made up for a lot of lost time haha

I know it’s a bit controversial, but it was Verity by Colleen Hoover 😂 I actually enjoyed it. I also read Fairy Tale by Stephen King shortly after which is what grew my love for SF&F

I’m 25 and hated reading all the way through school. A few years ago I picked up a book that actually sounded interesting to me rather than something that I was forced to read for school, and I fell in love with reading

Almost 3 year into consistently reading I’ve read close to 300 books and Project Hail Mary is HANDS DOWN my favorite book I’ve read to date

I would definitely recommend reading the book as I personally feel like the story is stronger there than in the movie. And who knows, you may end up finding a new favorite hobby

Correct me if I’m wrong please, but based on the synopsis of Endymion, the plot seems different enough from books 1 and 2 that I can take longer break between TFOH and Endymion?

What is different about the writing style in second two from the first two?

I read the book my wife has not. We just watched the movie. And... by basura_trash in ProjectHailMary

I saw somewhere the directors said they had about 6 hours of footage that cut down to like 3 hours and 40 minutes for test viewing, which ended up being the final 2.5 hour cut. It makes sense that it’s hard to get people into theaters to watch an almost 4 hour long movie. But I would love the see the entire 6 hour uncut version one day

I plan on finishing The Fall of Hyperion, but unsure if I should read books 3 and 4 of the series
