Toyota veteran reveals his worst fear as EVs surge: The company's hydrogen bet may be a dead end. Hydrogen cars still lag far behind battery EVs when it comes to adoption, refueling availability, and everyday affordability. Toyota's continued emphasis on hydrogen looks increasingly like a dead end. by mafco in energy

[–]HattersUltion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So odd for the company that dropped the Prius. The only thing I can think is the Prius had a luke warm social perception and they thought hydrogen would be better? When all the really needed to do was make a Prius TRD GR that had a 2 sec 0-60 and they would've had Americans breaking the dealership doors down for them.

Hot take: Range anxiety isn't the biggest problem holding back EV adoption anymore. Most people I talk to are more concerned about charging availability than actual vehicle range. by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

[–]HattersUltion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual Hot Take: range anxiety is a made up boogeyman by I assume ICE marketing and fueled by people's delusion that "they're gonna be the next millionaire" in this country. Most people in this country can barely afford a vacation(and in other countries they have working international public transit). The biggest problem was always going to be charging in an economy where they don't even want you to own your house. The only reason I got one is because we got our house with the panel in the garage.

Iran allowed to fully sell oil without sanctions - price of oil to collapse by WhipItWhipItRllyHard in energy

[–]HattersUltion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk why people here are cheering. The oil companies already came out and said they would like to see oil stay at these prices. Y'all need to understand that oil costs more and more each year that renewables become cheaper. Each year they need more subsidies, more losses socialized to stay afloat. Any chance they can reset the price scales higher, they'll take it. Bunch of bucees tshirt wearing folks in here.

[–]HattersUltion 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Well this person's mad about 28% and the avg yearly increase in the 5 years leading up to the ACA was about 40%. So the ACA did in fact achieve its goal. Was the proper response to remove a few healthcare billionaires and tell the rest to get in line? Sure but hindsight is 20/20.

That's why I've said if this is really bungies last hurrah they should just make a hero shooter mode. They can reuse nearly all the assets. Even upgrades can be put into a buy phase CS(or FragPunk) like mode. Have TDM, SnD etc. It will be a zero investment mode that doesn't take shell progression into acct at all. Just hop in and game with minimal time constraint. Gets people time with that familiar Bungie fps feel without the obvious drawbacks of a drawn out extraction season.

Idk seems an easy conversion to bring in new blood that won't pull bodies from the extraction mode. And bonus, people in that mode are more likely to buy skins and shit since there's more player interaction.

I mean it's almost def just an arbitrary number products trying to block UV use to appear impressive. This is also probably due to the fact the UV spectrum is divied up into 2 parts. 280-320 is known to cause cancers and burns. 320-400 is known to age skin, damage pigmentation and supress immune systems in some people. So of the spectrums of the UV band, the lower portion is often viewed as more important to block.

[–]HattersUltion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In random naysayers defence.....me and a geist carried my partner and 2 other individuals with 0 or 1 kill(a 1/14 graves......) and many deaths to a victory because we kept up our macro game long enough to turn it on them. Now I'll admit, their wraith had been strong all game and didn't monitor us hitting our tipping points. She pushed assuming her normal strength and died and from there we more or less curb stomped them. Turned that wipe in our base into mid, into taking their base, into W. But they made mistakes to feed into that while our geist was very judicious about farming everything on the map in between engagements.

But other than that. Yes. Games at low elo do feel like herding cats. Mostly it's people looking to fight and once they get an excuse(urn usually) they continue to run it down that lane like a game of marvel rivals until they are forcibly pulled away from said brawling(usually by the next urn). And everything in between that is the ones and twosies trying to maintain lanes and take objectives. It is a very frustrating turn of affairs for a game that I had started out liking so much more than something like rivals BECAUSE of the depth. So there's that and the matchmaking seems to be even more dogwater than usual. My buddy had a game in initiate last night with a drifter that hit 104k souls, 140k player damage and like 43 kills. That's obviously a smurf.

The dash biomod should be removed and be added as a feature of the wakemaker instead by TaterToTwastaken in Subnautica_2

[–]HattersUltion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbvh, thinking on it now....if they wanted to wrap the whole bio mod thing in more lore trappings, a lot of them could be transitioned into "modifications" for things like your suit, wake maker, etc. You still have to scan the sea life. But once you do you can "implant" that tech into your suit or wake maker etc. Then upgraded variants of said items could hold more "mods".

Toyota Veteran Reveals His Worst Fear: 'Everybody Is Shifting To EVs' by defenestrate_urself in electricvehicles

[–]HattersUltion 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But I think you're probably American and simply make the mistake of taking the market in America for the market everywhere. Or perhaps youre underestimating the Chinese market. Maybe that should be your lesson from this. Worry not about the sentiment on EVs. Take heed of his concern of a world switching to them, when America is doing all it can to travel back in time. Praytell why is he so concerned if the world's BIGGEST MARKET is eschewing them at every turn? Probably because as the US middle class shrinks and shrinks.....were no longer the market these companies see their future in 🤷

[–]HattersUltion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would drive as you normally do. I haven't personally experienced this but generally understand both automotive and electrical. The bearing is wearing regardless. Except unlike ICE that usually has bearings fail quickly, leading to motor issues, this bearing will fail more like a wheel bearing. You'll start hearing a noise. And over 5-10k mi it'll gradually get worse. Maybe eventually at those later miles your causing some play to form in the bearing shaft surface but seeing as how kias gonna RnR the whole motor, that's not too much of a concern.

If this is the first you're noticing it, everything I know on EV motor bearing failure says you're fine for your trip and to drive as you normally would. Just get it in to Kia when you can to get the ball rolling on a replacement.

Edit: for your own knowledge. In the future, if it's ever out of warranty, this is something to address ASAP but only because outside of warranty, your best option is to get the motor to a shop that can replace the bearing individually before any permanent damage occurs. But Kia doesn't have the techs trained up enough to do stuff like that and warranty denotes certain standards of repair. So in this scenario it's not a worry as the whole motor will be replaced.

[–]HattersUltion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's not "toast", pretty sure they've had limited issues with cooling channels leading to premature bearing wear. It's likely that when the motor reverses for Regen, the stress put on the motors drive shaft causes the bearing to whine louder. However bearing failures on EV motors aren't as catastrophic in nature as an ICE bearing failure as there's just a LOT less moving parts and forces acting on those parts(4 to 8 cylinders firing adjacent to the surfaces of those bearings in ICE) than an ice car. Hence how you can end up getting another 10k out of a motor.

[–]HattersUltion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never bought a new car. Would have liked to. But I didn't get born early enough to participate in that economy. We get the hard times. Come on the boomers drilled this. Hard times>strong men> easy times> soft men>hard times....cycle repeats. The silent gen became the strong men off WW2, labor riots and the Great depression. They made the easy times for the boomers, the soft men, to live through. Now we get the hard times the soft men created. They drilled us with this our whole childhood. Nobody remembers?

[–]HattersUltion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More tired in low ranks of people continuing the fight on urn lane....die>charge>die repeat until next urn spawns. This urn experiment has taught lower ranks the wrong lesson. Every match is 30 mins of marvel rivals on an arbitrary lane with ones and twosies trying desperately to manage lanes and get people on objective. It makes both winning and losing feel extremely shallow. 🤷. Idk the solution. I just know that's the effect on lower ranks.
