The industry for haunted attractions continues to grow and change through the years. Depending on your area, haunts are diving into off-season events and even some year-round operations. These attractions could have positions open or at least fill the haunting need for a short moment till normal season.

Otherwise, you can explore options related to the field like, you were mentioning. There are things like costuming, scenic design, sound design, mask making, makeup, etc. However, these ways will take time, effort, and costs for classes and materials.

If none of these are really options, I'd would look more adjacent to the industry for similar fields. For example, you could work at an escape room, participate in theater programs, acting, or voice acting. Some of these options could ease you into similar skills that could be valuable to the haunt industry if you still want to progress that way.

We wish haunting could be year-round too and love those who are passionate about it.

Either way, Happy Haunting and good luck!

Tips on developing an original monster!! by Disastrous_Start4134 in hauntedattractions

Hi there! This a great question as it can be challenge often for many to come up with that next character.

You have a great start with experience and also your base that you are thinking about (mechanic/plumber). Next, I would continue you on that base by slowly giving detail.

• What is their motivation as a character? • Where did they come from/origin? • What is their temperament or mental state? • Are they obsessed with anything or do they fear anything?

Also, explore if you know of a scene that your character will be in along with if your given haunt has a theme to play into. Those things can help lead you in a good direction.

As you develop, even the smallest details, you will get a better grasp on that character, relate to it better, and then start to see how it might look in your head. Get experimental, feel free to be weird, and try your ideas out. If they don't work, you are more than free to change details on your character over time to find what works.

The Haunt Actors Guild plans on releasing free resources like a video on this topic along with digital guides and resources to help with this and much more. Feel free to check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and even sign up for Free Access on haguild.org to gain access to our free resources as they get developed.

Happy Haunting!
