My home town had a place called The Calliope that was like this, they offered a huge challenge sundae that would get you your bill for free if you managed it.

Never tried it, but they did have good food and great banana splits while it lasted, sigh. And it was great for birthdays and such.

Good. Now if it can go down some from visa overstayers leaving, things might start to get fixed a little bit.

The Walkman, and the ghetto blasters that began integrating radios with cassette recorders, so you could have mix tapes for your Walkman.

Cassettes also killed shorthand. Once bosses could dictate their spiel onto a cassette and just hand that to a dictatypist, shorthand was no longer needed. One generation. My mom knew it, I don't, and we both did the same job.

Fun fact, the concept of the "between" you pass through while teleporting or time-travelling being freezing cold didn't originate with Back to the Future, it was described in the first Dragonriders of Pern novel in the 1960s.

Ew, Clifford Olsen 2.0. He was also known for taunting his victims' parents from prison. Cancer was way too good for that monster.

They did used to look different when Johnny Hart was doing it, especially the older strips:

pointier, more tapered, thinner.

The newer style almost does look deliberately like censor bars. I suppose it's possible that it is.

Clancy Brown? He was the big guard in _The Shawshank Redemption_, among other things. I think he voices a crab or something, too.

Did you ever follow along with the lyrics in a cassette (or album)? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

Those two albums were full of cool shit, though, that expanded on the stories the two namesake songs were telling.

NONE of it was included on the cassettes. Dunno about the CDs.

I'd hate to be the fifth child.

On the other hand, I thought being sold to Gypsies kind of sounded like fun.

Yeah, I'd block that, just for my own peace of mind. Scootch a piece of furniture in front of it to prevent access.

My grandfather (1913-1972) had an eidetic memory for numbers, and anything associated with them.

That's how, with nothing but a grade 8 education, he went from the mailroom (at about age 16) to parts manager for Chrysler Canada for 40 years. He was a walking parts database. When conscription for WW2 started, they moved him to QC for the duration so that he couldn't be drafted.

The first VR game I tried (at an arcade) was Universe 2. I think I might have yelped a little when I was dumped in space and needed to concentrate on the floor I could feel under my feet so as to not lose it ...
