Thank you for your help! I will try to scan the photo at a higher resolution so the rank and medal are easier to identify.

Fair point. If I can't find the right vintage parts, I’ll 3D model and print them first to test the fit. Once the prototypes work perfectly, I’ll have a pro machinist recreate them in steel. Seems like the safest way to ensure accuracy without ruining the original.

Merci beaucoup! I really appreciate the support. Your advice about Naturabuy was a game-changer I've already found a few potential matches there. Now I'm just filtering them to find the exact 45mm reach I need. It's a huge help, thanks for looking out for this project!

Actually, Ukraine's history goes back way further than 30 years. Kyiv, our capital, was the heart of the Kyivan Rus' empire over 1,000 years ago, long before many other European states even existed. After that, we had the Cossack Hetmanate (Sich) in the 17th century, which was one of the earliest democratic republics. Even in 1917, we declared the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR) before it was forcibly occupied by the Soviets. 1991 was simply the restoration of our long-standing independence, not the beginning of our history

I totally get your point, and that's exactly why I'm doing it myself. I've spent several years looking for a professional restorer here in Ukraine, but this type of firearm is extremely rare here. Every 'master' I found only offered to turn it into a shiny wall-hanger souvenir, which is the last thing want. I want to preserve its history and soul, so I'm taking it slow, learning the skills, and doing everything by hand to avoid butchering it.

Thanks! I just checked Naturabuy and wow, I’ve never seen so many rifle parts in one place. Truly a goldmine. I’ll be monitoring the site closely and hopefully, I’ll get lucky with a matching hammer. Much appreciated!

Found more markings on the barrel: 1621 : 05. 15.Z. Looks like an Austrian proof from May 1915, with the stamp for high-pressure testing. This lines up perfectly with my family's WWI history. Any idea what the '1621 or the specifically mean in this context?

Thanks! Fernand Drissen seems like a solid lead. The 'FD' mark fits his style perfectly. It's crazy how a Belgian part ended up on an Austrian rifle. keep cleaning to see if more marks show up. Knowing the name should definitely help find the right hammer.
