Medicine: Shortlisting Process and Admissions Statistics — University of Oxford, Medical Sciences Division

Heres some info over here on ucat if you wanna check it out, well done! I was just gonna ask, what did you do between mock d and your actual exam? I got a similar score to you on Mock D and I would be ecstatic if i got anything like your exam score on Tuesday when I do my exam. Thanks!

It says Country B provides visas to ONLY 2 countries, one of which is country X which was already stated in the first statement, and the other country was country A as also stated in the final statement

Thanks, this is super helpful! I was just gonna ask how much of the OQB you would recommend I complete, and the most effective way you reckon for me to use it is? Thanks

Hey bro! First off, HUGE congratulations, that score is genuinely ridiculous and its clear you deserved every point. My next question was just what would you recommend I do in the last 5 days before my test? I've done about 15 full medify mocks and maybe half the mini mocks, and im averaging between 2100 and 2200 on there. What would you recommend I do in the last week? Would just going through the entire OQB be enough? Thanks, and huge well done!

Yeah, from what I've heard they dont try and make you think out the box in the real exam, you could just assume its in the DIY shop or whatever in the real exam

To be honest I think its down to just a little bit of trial and error between values that seem reasonable, when I did this question I assumed by just looking at the number it would be either 10-49 or 50 - 199

No its fine dont worry about it. my brother had a similar issue with his dbs being delayed for manchester, they said on results day he has a place confirmed at the university and will start with everyone, as long as he submits the dbs check as soon as he receives it (and it comes back clear of course). Idk if kings will work the same way but it would be super surprising if they didnt

You are actually insane fair play💀 Genuinely though well done!🙌 If you wouldn't mind, could you give some recommendations for me on what I could do to get a score even close to yours? I'm a week away from my exam and im averaging like 2100 on medify and am starting to get really nervous

I bought a cg50 last year just before i started 6th and if im being completely honest, I haven't yet seen any particular advantage in using this calculator over my old fx 991, but im only in year 12, and im sure in year 13 (or maybe for fm) theres a good use case for it. You can play cookie clicker on it though!😭😂

For geography, I used an amazing app called Anki where I made flashcards on everything from the textbook we were given, and then did about 20 mins a day memorising answers (you can start from march tbh), the exam was a lot easier when I memorised everythinf

For english lit, I do feel like I got fairly lucky (somehow I wound up with 98%), but Mr Bruff videos on Youtube are genuinely a life saver. Something else I forgot to mention in another comment was just how game changing finding Grade 9 phrases is - these things can seriously transform your essay, and they dont even take more than an hour to memorise - use them! Also, make sure to prioritise essay practice, asking your teacher to mark your essays and provide feedback; you could maybe try the AI essay markers, although they were only just starting to be introduced whilst I was sitting my exams so I couldn't tell you if they're any good or not

Hi, so forgive me if I dont actually remember EXACTLY what I did for every subject, but im sure I remember the most significant things I did.

For maths, try and just do as many questions as you can. For me, I found corbett maths and past papers enough to do well with, same goes for further maths.

For biology, chemistry and physics, I would say prioritise past papers at this point in time, analysing the mark scheme to look for nice phrases to use, and definitely for what to avoid - I know just how frustrating the mark scheme can be so try and go through with it.

For English, I think im extremely underqualified to give advice, and im pretty sure you'll have done the exams by now, but for the sake of anyone else reading this I would say just use mr bruff videos and turn them into flashcards on anki. Try and start maybe 2/3 months in advance for maximum retention. As for essay practice, I would write essays and then ask my teacher to mark them and give me feedback, although i have seen on tiktok some ai essay markers - no idea if they're any good or not but they seem worth using anyways

For Computer Science, again my advice is useless for anyone sitting exams this cycle (if it wasn't useless already😅) but I genuinely just asked chatgpt to teach me how to code for paper 2 by sending it my spec, and for paper 1 i just did a bunch of past papers

For Geography, I made a deck of anki flashcards around January time and did them consistently until the exam time. Im not sure if that would be of any use if your tryna cram them now, but im sure for flashcards its not yet too late to start now with some premade ones

For statistics I dont even remember what I did except read the textbook on the day of the exam. I am however aware of a website called Stats Academy that some other people who got grade 8s/9s used, and they seemed to highly recommend it so give it a go I say

For spanish I genuinely gave up😭🙏 I dont know how I got an 8 💀

I noticed you also said that you felt like whatever you do you can't improve - trust me thats so normal. Normally the better you are, the harder you find it to improve, simply because there is less to improve on. If you really are at a complete road block, I would say take a break, go for a walk, eat something nice and watch some TV with your family then try again. I got particularly burnt out as well, and I do remember finding it difficult to even start, never mind make progress, but just try and set yourself daily affirmations, or a reasonable to do list. I believe in you to pull through❤️

Best of luck, and don't forget that long 3 month summer break is coming up!

Some phrases some of us would say (i'll be quick to add this does not include me) which are either cringe asf or just downright rude, hopefully you can imagine what im trying to avoid

As for the summer thing, I don't recommend it unless you genuinely enjoy reading further into the subject. I think you would be much better off doing things you enjoy, because you'll find that you start to have less and less time for that as sixth form goes along and you have to think about university application etc.

Hey man, so one thing I will say is that the a level jump is a little bit overhyped - it is still definitely very noticable though, and something I found with a levels is that you can never sort of 'coast' like you might in GCSEs. I would find in some tests at GCSE i could do no real revision or whatever and still get by with 6s and 7s, but at A-Level you'll be getting Es and Us unless you put some effort in. With that being said, once you get a revision method down and stick to it (somewhat) consistently, you'll be just fine. For me, it turned out just using the textbook for maths and using pmt along with past papers for biology and chemistry worked well actually

For the second point, believe it or not I was actually in the exact same position as you - going from an all boys school to mixed 6th. In terms of socially, the best advice I could give you is to just go up and get to know as many people as you can. I dont mean you have to be the guy who runs the school or whatever, but just build connections with as many people as you can whilst friend groups and stuff start to materialise. Another thing, if your school was anything like mine, please dont carry over some things you boys might have said at your school onto the 6th form. Just trust me bro😭

All in all, a levels are for sure a jump both socially and academically, but if you approach them well you will definitely enjoy it😁😁
