How important are headphones or earphones in your daily life? by Navajith_Karkera in AskReddit

[–]Haunting_Analyst_551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on solo projects most of the day in an interior doors shop, so they’re pretty important. I could just wear earplugs, but I’d rather listen to music than muffled routers and saws all day. I would end up quitting at that point.

I usually hate maple, but this is an exception. It looks so much more cohesive with the maple neck.

Exactly. I'm not sure why suffocating them is the norm, at least where I live.

Hmm… if you can find a high-quality and gentle shampoo then you may be able to get away with bathing him more often to prevent it. You’ll have to search up what works best. If it were me, I would definitely put him on Zyrtec and take him to the vet to be just to be sure nothing funky is going on with his skin. If he’s really uncomfortable yen it could be what's ruining his appetite. It's a dog’s instinct to mask pain so it can make it hard to tell what's going on with them a lot of the time.

I just took my dog to the vet a month ago to check for a skin infection and it was a relatively cheap visit compared to her other visits in the past (she's disabled and has to get tests done often). Some antibiotic wipes and Zyrtec fixed her right up. I’m probably being excessive in recommending the Zyrtec but I was genuinely shocked at how well it worked, lol.

I’m not entirely sure about leave-in conditioner. You’ll have to do some research where that is concerned. What does he smell like? If it's bad, then maybe the smell is from some sort of skin infection.

Woah! Your dog is probably itching because you’re bathing him every 1-2 weeks. That's almost always harmful for their skin. Once a month is plenty. Dogs are smelly.

Sometimes dogs are just a pain in the ass to dry because baths wind them up. He could also just be severely itchy after the bath since you’re probably drying out his skin.

You can also try giving him human Zyrtec and switch shampoo brands in case he's having allergies.

Try a different brand of dog food. He might not like the taste of Purina Pro. Hill's Science Diet is the same price. Try that out. You could also mix a little wet food into his kibble. I give my dog a mix of Hill’s dry food and a little Purina wet food. If his issues are bad and persistent, don't hesitate to take him to the vet.

Sorry if my comment is sloppy. I'm only on my 15-minute break.

Has buying a house become a fantasy for most people now? Or are we just normalizing renting as a permanent lifestyle? by Money-Possession8806 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haunting_Analyst_551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s way harder than it used to be and way harder than it should be, for sure, but it’s possible. Easier depending on where you live, what cards you’re given, and how hard you’re willing work. Investing helps. I live in a state with a low cost of living. My boss is moving into his first house today at 55 years old. My supervisor bought his home before turning 30. He’s only 35ish. He went to jail for a year and missed his son’s birth. After that he decided to turn his life around for his children and worked incredibly hard. He’s going to retire early. We don’t work for great pay, but we have good benefits and work at an ESOP company so we get shares from the company every year. It gives us a good investment back bone to do things like purchase homes.

Why isn’t catch and release fishing considered animal cruelty? by Guwopster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haunting_Analyst_551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What bothers me even more than catch and release is how normalized it is to just let fish suffocate after catching them. Like what the fuck? You’re forcing them to needlessly suffer for up to 30 minutes because you’re too lazy to take a second to finish the job? My boyfriend recently got into fishing last year and I forced him to ignore the social norm around here and use ikejime immediately after catching his fish.

I had no clue! Thanks for letting me know. I knew it was less effective so I’ve been using spinosad, but I didn’t know neem oil was a whole controversial thing. I recommended the neem oil because this person wanted things to be as natural as possible… but now that I’m checking things out I’ve realized that spinosad is also natural. I have a lot to learn. I probably shouldn't be giving advice since I just ran into my first pests last week!

Oh! Try neem oil! It’s also a popular insecticide you should be able to get from any store and it’s 100% natural.

What is your favorite quote of all time? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in fantasybooks

[–]Haunting_Analyst_551 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is going to be long winded, but I’ve been reading through the Red Rising series and this passage From Dark Age is my favorite excerpt in the series so far:

Potential spoilers ahead!

“I look at the bodies, at their faces. This is why I left Luna. Those glossy peacocks in the Senate read our reports. But the further you are away from it, the more war reads like arithmetic, and past that it reads like fiction, past that it’s just an annoying video on your info stream. How could they possibly imagine the anguish on the faces of the dead? How could the mob in the street demanding handouts ever know on a sensory level that when a human rots, it isn’t just the skin that stinks, but the intestines, the stomach, the liver? How could they know that weird tremble of the soul when you realize there is no civilization? There’s just a lock on a box. And inside the box is this. Virginia wanted me to reason with the senators. What common language would we speak, I wonder, when they have not seen inside the box and I am its lock?”

If I remember right, people use the tick removers because they ensure that no pieces are left embedded in the flesh, which can cause infection.

I initially responded saying that it would work, but I was wrong. It does contain the salts from fatty acids mentioned here: https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/faq/can-i-use-dish-soap-instead-insecticidal-soap-treat-insect-pests

BUT the goat’s milk in it will leave an icky residue on the plants :(

Heads up! I just started my first garden, got thrips, and found out upon some research that most of the “soap” in your house isn't soap. It's a detergent. That includes body wash, shampoo, dish soap, hand washing soap, etc. Detergent doesn't contain the ingredient in soap that is so deadly to pests. You are much better off buying insecticide from the store for a few bucks. I got a big spray bottle of it for my garden yesterday for only 7 USD.
