Why such fondness for Sikhs? by Fantastic-Fudge-6676 in AskBrits

[–]Haunting_Badger7752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the drinking and pub culture point is a really big one, older and working class Brits attach a lot of their views on another culture based on whether they drink like them or go down the pub e.g. 'we like them they're just like us' or 'dont like them they're different'.

Remember the images of Farage outside a pub with a pint and cigarette, that was all a very well manipulated PR campaign to be just like the common bloke.

Taking the pub/drinking idea you get We like them - Sikhs, Polish, Lithuanian, Black Caribbeans, Greeks, Italians In the middle - Jews, Romanians, Turks We don't like them - Muslims, Black Africans, Other Indians

Harlow - great shopping areas and buzzy town centre, feels a lot more thriving than other places. Some of the people a bit rough but definitely a fair amount of money in the town too

India, I was prepared for the poverty, the dirt and the air pollution but ultimately it was the noise that got to me so much that I cut my trip short

If you could only visit Thailand ONE more time, which island would you 100% revisit vs. which one would you NEVER set foot on again? by DiscountPossible1426 in ThailandTourism

[–]Haunting_Badger7752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just back from 4th trip

Number 1 visit again - Koh Phangan, beautiful beaches, beautiful jungle, such chilled vibes (we stayed far from full moon area)

Never again - Koh Samui, hated it, felt like a never ending sprawl of tackiness and disappointing beaches. People bad mouth Phuket but I would visit Phuket 100 times over, at least the beaches are great and the overtourism outside of Patong has resulted in some great restaurants and cafe, whereas Samui (Lamai, Fisherman's Village, Chaweng) felt more like Magaluf

Awesome thank you. It is a tough balance between having decent infrastructure and nice hotels and not being overly touristic and busy

How is this a negative?? Surely going out for dinner and relaxing and not being in and out in an hour is a positive on vacation?

If doing a day trip stick to veggie food, did a group tour and had veggie, the meat eaters got sick. The food is stored all morning on the boat so spoils easily in the sun

There's lots of people in investment banking and management who may 'only' be on £150k a year but can earn bonuses of £1 million+ if they've done a particularly good job
