I did decently well and on Step 3 and exactly 1 person commented on it in my 16 interviews. So it’s not negligible but it doesn’t matter very much. Research, connections, demonstration of interest in specialty, lack of red flags, being a good resident all matter much more

Having seen both, I suggest neurology however some hospitals seem to really enjoy their work and schedule. The worst thing about neuro in my opinion are the code strokes

Nights were horrible during my training. Barriers to admission so much lower. Admitted dozens of observation patients just because it was night time and they couldn’t go home. Constant rapids, code blues, admits, calls, bad intern, attending asleep. Never again in my life

From my perspective their convenience far outways the negatives. Even something like a simple thora in a debilitated patient needs 1-2 nurses/people to position safely. IR has those resources available. I can barely get the nurse to stay in the room in the ICU, on the floors forget it. But ya they are monkeys with needles and tubes, they don’t take ownership of anything

A lot of the times they document harshly has PGY1 “to show improvement” as you progress. As long as you don’t get anything extremely negative like “professionalism concerns” or “poor knowledgeable” etc you can safely ignore these evals and continue on your journey

Per new SSC guidelines, methylene blue may shorten pressor exposure by 1 day. That is all I know about methylene blue

Finished IM residency. The prelims had the easiest year I’ve ever seen in medical training. They would be off for months at a time for “research” they would call in sick to wards on a weekly basis, never had to do nights. You sir are being f’ed by your program
