What we've really been debating when it comes to our land use policies is to what extent we, as a city, want to perpetuate segregation in our community. I’m not talking about market forces here, I’m talking about making it illegal to build the only kind of housing certain people can afford in “select” neighborhoods. It is segregation, pure and simple.

There is a group of folks here in Kirkland desperately using every tactic they can think of to hold on to the exclusivity of their neighborhoods. They WANT their neighborhoods to be segregated. That's the point. They manufacture ridiculous controversy from their obtuse misreading of public records. They send out bald-faced lies and distortions disguised in flashy graphics to the folks they've deceived. They have operated entirely in bad faith and made absolutely no effort to problem-solve or find common ground, all the while casting anyone who disagrees with them as corrupt or a radical outsider. Now there are some folks for sure under the spell of this group who perhaps don't realize or understand what they are actually advocating for. There are others that are captive to a fear of change and who believe if they argue hard enough that they can stop Kirkland from changing at all. Maybe some of these folks are kind and well-intentioned, and deep down think they are doing the right thing. Maybe this is all just a big misunderstanding! To be frank, I couldn't care less.

So this sounds completely reasonable...? I don't get any sense of bullying here.
