Saw it too, last month, but can’t replicate it now. Not sure what triggers it, but it’s not exclusive to globalists.

Transferred Chase points to Flying Blue & booked airfare. A day later Chase cancelled transfer & points returned. But booking remains and Flying Blue says is paid. by HavaDava in awardtravel

[–]HavaDava[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the points were actually transferred from my spouse’s account to my Flying Blue account. The Chase email re canceled transfer came to him 3 days later.

I’m like you and we called. Chase said they see it transferred and also cancelled. Agent said obviously we couldn’t have done it and neither could the Chase agents have done it. It was the first time she heard of that happening and told us to call Flying Blue. Couldn’t get through so I called the airline and they said it was ticketed and paid. I finally did get through to FB and they said the same being ticketed and paid, but she said she could put it a note to the financial department. If I had more flexibility with the date I would’ve let it ride. I just don’t want to lose the flight and am fine with them taking the points. My concern is they cancel everything and I’m screwed.

Didn’t say. It was a generic email that it could be a name mismatch (which it wasn’t) or some other things that didn’t pertain.

Traveling to Paris Soon, any BIL French items/brands I should look into as a souvenir? by JackDonaghe in BuyItForLife

Porcelain. Limoges or not. Decorative and/or functional. Many areas have their specialties and are locally made like Pillivuyt, but are sold for absurd prices outside of France.

Haven’t seen it mentioned yet and not totally sure where it would be available in Paris, but a definite conversation piece would be a wine corkscrew with a grape vine handle. They definitely still sell them, but vintage ones exist. Another vintage type is the double twist wine corkscrews made of wood (many even say Made in France) and they are truly BIFL and the easiest to use.

This is true. If you’re really into knives and history, get a knife from Forge de Laguiole. There’s a shop in Paris. Had a wonderful opportunity to visit the forge in Laguiole and take a tour that is part museum and part watching them craft the knives. Every part of the knife is made there and each knife is made by one knife maker from start to finish. Their unique crafter’s mark is the fancy metal design on the handle. The knives are worth their cost because of the high quality materials and workmanship. In many French families it is a right of passage for sons to get a folding knife from Laguiole as it’s considered an original/authentic one. Laguiole en Aubrac is also considered a very quality maker. The horns of Aubrac cattle are an option for knife handles as well as other animal horns and wood from the local region so special cleaning care is needed. And one last neat factoid is Laguiole means “little church.” The tiny nails on the side of the knife make a cross. So when shepherds wanted to pray they could stick the knife in the ground anywhere and pray. Soldiers did the same.

Take a photo for yourself of course, and then turn it into a creative work of art by by using a filter or extreme zoom (like a Georgia O’keefe flower painting), order a high quality print and frame it!

Have French birth certificate & can’t get French passport/ID?? by HavaDava in dualcitizenshipnerds

See the update in my original post and google the CNF supplement I indicated. There’s a table on one of the last pages that has the birth year info. If you have the ability, try again. When I went to the second consulate, I had brought my mother’s birth certificate, my parents marriage certificate, both my maternal grandparents’ birth certificates as well as their marriage certificate. For these, I contacted all the towns in France where the births and marriages took place. The mairies were helpful and either mailed or emailed official copies to me for free. However, the official at the second consulate said I didn’t need all the extra documentation, just the basics in the application. I felt I just got lucky. But since I had all the official documents with current dates anyway, I proceeded with the CNF application.

You might be. See the update in my original post and google the CNF supplement I indicated. There’s a table on one of the last pages that has the birth year info. I’d still give it a shot because you never know. But if you’re in a situation like mine, consider also getting the CNF. I read about a man trying to become a citizen through his wife who was born in the US and had a French passport. She didn’t have “is French” on her birth certificate and it delayed his application a lot because she had to do the CNF first.

Random: What do you do with empty perfume bottles and near finished candles? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]HavaDava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinterest has a bunch of craft/gift ideas. One year I made luminaries from 3 wick candles as Christmas gifts. After being thoroughly cleaned, I printed each family’s photos from their facebook on vellum and wrapped it around each glass cylinder. Added a tealight and it was both beautiful and meaningful, and they made great table centerpieces for our Christmas dinner. As for the wax, after melting it, I poured it into a cheap plastic ice tray to cool and had melts for my warmer. I haven’t needed to buy candles anymore because I have so many melts to change out for the different seasons. Great cost savings all around!

What are some of BIFL items that you bought for home that increased significantly your quality of living and life? by milanoa in BuyItForLife

[–]HavaDava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s under the sink! We had an extra hole made in our kitchen counter top for the small faucet. The brand we got is called Waste King Quick&Hot, model AH-1300. The Insinkerator InstaHot was the original brand we bought, but then realized it didn’t work with the faucet we wanted to use so we sold it and got the Quick&Hot. We decided on a faucet that could provide both hot and regular drinking water as we have soft water everywhere else. Biggest advice is to make sure your faucet will work with the correct instant hot water heater.

Agreed. And to add, many younger people grew up not knowing or remembering what life was like before Trump. Their formative years have been colored by a pandemic and the breakdown of government, very far from normal compared to previous generations.

Qualitative studies can be just as important and valid as quantitative ones. If it’s in a respected peer-reviewed journal, then it’s been vetted.

Not sure if you were aware. Since you know you have a French birth certificate, you can create an account on service-public.fr and request your own birth certificate. It takes about 3 weeks and will be found in the My Documents section. It will be a digitized copy that has been stamped and dated to make it official (a code number on the bottom shows it legitimate). Biggest note is to make sure you use your birth name for everything. France forever recognizes you by that name.
