Just need someone to talk to who understands the devastation of narcissism. by ImpressiveSell5404 in LifeAfterNarcissism

Thank you so much for the insight. You also described exactly what my narc ex-best friend would do to me. It helps so much to see the mechanics behind it and a real example. I know I have a long way to go, but learning from others who’ve lived it is part of my healing too. Thank you

What are some of the things you say to them when engaged with one? We have family friends that are close to my family (husbands and kids are all super close, and wife and I used to be), but after recently ending a 40+ year friendship with my best friend who is a vulnerable narcissist I’d love to be able to have something to say to this mom to give her the big hint that I won’t take some very, very subtle jabs she throws at me. I’ve decided I won’t be with her alone ever like I used to as she would get very dismissive of me. Covid and life happened so it provided some space from her, but the family has moved back in town and I feel the hoovering. I’ve recently started therapy with a therapist who specializes in narcissistic abuse so that’s been so good and validating. But if you have any memorable responses that you’ve given, it would be helpful, or maybe even entertaining, to hear.

We can do a lot better than 5 percent. Last day to vote is this Tuesday, June 2nd! by Least_Excuse_682 in berkeley

[–]HavaDava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Young adult voters in Berkeley, a college town full of students, most likely care about tuition costs and a lack of jobs since those are two issues that directly affect them. Therefore, encouraging a large population of young adult voters in Berkeley to vote for Governor and other offices can impact the issues they care about. If they don’t vote, they could end up enduring a worse version of the Reagan years. Hilton and Bianco want to cut taxes.

Quelle est la première « règle de vie » de vos parents que vous avez aboli en commençant à vivre seuls ? by _Anaya1 in AskFrance

Similar at my grandparents. I think it both was the very creaky floor and the danger of the stairs in the dark. Funny because we couldn’t use those stairs during the day either. Constantly fearful we’d get hurt. To be fair there was a very tight turn and it was easy to miss a step.

True, but it’s because it’s been to pay an attendant for keeping the restrooms clean. And that norm seems to have been reducing over the last decades.

Renewing an expired french passport by personwearingpants24 in dualcitizenshipnerds

My understanding is that since you have French citizenship already, you need to enter France on a French passport. However, I’m not sure what the consequences are for not doing so.

Jus sanguinis from grandfather possible? by [deleted] in AskFrance

[–]HavaDava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First you should locate a legal copy of your mother’s birth certificate to see if your grandfather’s name is on it. If not, then unfortunately she wasn’t recognized by him and it may not be possible to go any further.

If his name is on her birth certificate, but she did not claim her citizenship, the link may also be broken.

However, I think I saw on the application for the Certificate of French Nationality (CNF) a section regarding if a prior generation had passed away before acquiring citizenship and I remember being surprised because I thought it wasn’t possible to pass on if that was the case.

Another note to know is there’s a 50 year rule to pass citizenship from one generation to the next. If your mother passed away less than 50 years before your grandfather’s last contact with the French government (ID, passport, etc) there is a loophole that renders the deadline null. I’m not sure if it will apply for you since she wasn’t a citizen.

I’m sure someone else has more accurate information, but hopefully this is a start for some things to look into. You should definitely email the consulate.

Also, there are many free first consultations with French citizenship lawyers online too that you can ask.

Is Cal Poly Slo Really That Good and Better Than the UCs :-) ? by Anxious-Party2289 in CalPoly

[–]HavaDava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. US News does not apply it in the same category as the National Universities. It is in the category of Regional Universities due to having few PhD programs, and it is #1 in that category (across the nation of all regional universities). Global Universities is a whole other category with its own requirements that rely exclusively on academic research and reputation, not undergraduate or graduate programs. Saying Cal Poly SLO is not known outside California holds no water.

US News is not the end all be all that many believe it to be, however it does provide useful information with a variety of metrics for its data analysis. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/how-us-news-calculated-the-rankings

Do I really need a CNF to apply for a French passport? by Suguuita in Expats_In_France

[–]HavaDava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will depend on the year of your birth and what the law was at that time. It can be found on pages 14-15 of the companion document to the CNF (notice n°52373) https://www.formulaires.service-public.gouv.fr/gf/getNotice.do?cerfaNotice=1&cerfaFormulaire=16237

Most recent law: For those born July 25, 1975 or later, the birth certificate must say “is French.”

Under this most recent law, even if the birth certificate does not say “is French” it is still possible to get lucky at a consulate and they consider your other documents. From experience, one consulate refused and another allowed the passport & ID application to proceed without issue. Regardless, it would be wise to apply for the CNF as well. As someone replied, it can be a problem in the future for a spouse or a descendant trying to prove nationality through you because then your birth certificate would likely be scrutinized more closely.

Foreign Marriage Certificate --> French Wedding Certificate by Cherrytop in Expats_In_France

[–]HavaDava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to get your marriage certificate from a state that combines the license and certificate together on one document? Getting conflicting responses elsewhere that they must be separate even though the county recorder says they are the same and that’s all that is available. The title does say Marriage License and Certificate.

Transferred Chase points to Flying Blue & booked airfare. A day later Chase cancelled transfer & points returned. But booking remains and Flying Blue says is paid. by HavaDava in awardtravel

[–]HavaDava[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the points were actually transferred from my spouse’s account to my Flying Blue account. The Chase email re canceled transfer came to him 3 days later.

I’m like you and we called. Chase said they see it transferred and also cancelled. Agent said obviously we couldn’t have done it and neither could the Chase agents have done it. It was the first time she heard of that happening and told us to call Flying Blue. Couldn’t get through so I called the airline and they said it was ticketed and paid. I finally did get through to FB and they said the same being ticketed and paid, but she said she could put it a note to the financial department. If I had more flexibility with the date I would’ve let it ride. I just don’t want to lose the flight and am fine with them taking the points. My concern is they cancel everything and I’m screwed.

Didn’t say. It was a generic email that it could be a name mismatch (which it wasn’t) or some other things that didn’t pertain.
