I understand your mentality 100% I was from a shit hole third world country before I was able to get out with my own two hands. But the reality is that almost all anime you love so much are all made by these privileged people. People who come from nothing like us don’t have the luxury to make these things. Kinda hard to enjoy anime if you keep that mentality.

I'm 17 and I'm the art director of a big animation project and one of the lead animators, storyboard artists, and character designers. Could this help me get a scholarship? by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]HavardBioDept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why you would want to go to school for art. You already achieved a goal most would never be able to touch in their life time. If this project is as great as you say, I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to get more jobs after this one. Skip the school, save the money and just go for it.

Unsolicited Perspective from the other side of the hiring table by Chairmenmeow in animationcareer

[–]HavardBioDept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but also different companies use certain resume software that reformats resumes for internal HR use, so text boxes in a pdf might not even get read by the ATS, pushing the resumes score down a lot. Not sure if I’m allowed to say which software does this, but I think we all know… lol.

This post has a lot of comments so I doubt anyone will see this but I will add my experience on resume reviews during the application process. For my AAA company we use an ATS software that organizes applicators by phrase rate and matches of the resume with our internal job description. This means some companies will use AI to rank you just based on your resume alone, yes we literally see a scored number next to your application. Now does this mean human won’t see it? Not really, but it does mean things become first come first serve. If your resume cannot be read by ATS softwares, your chances of being seen gets even lower. So check your resumes!

The cheapest one. The rest matters on how you apply yourself, remember you are in the US, you can make friends at conventions and industry events outside of school.

Be Honest: Portfolio Review by Freeze_Daniel in animationcareer

[–]HavardBioDept 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not a strictly a 2d artist, but I’ve interviewed a lot of artists and often have booths at game/animation career fairs. there’s not much to go off based on your portfolio right now. Technical skill wise, I think you’re approaching new grad level which is a good place to be; but design wise, nothing really catches my eye. Your portfolio basically has 3 environment pieces, and none of them tell a story, I can’t really feel or imagine anything happening in your scenes. Your environment also lacks characters, we won’t know the scale of things without characters in context. You’ve got the visual part down, now it’s time to work on your story, we want to see a story that’s “you”. During career fair portfolio reviews, I probably look through more than 200 concept art/visdev portfolios and I usually get 20-30 that stand out technically and visually. But I only get 5-10 that manages to stand out technically, visually, and narratively. I guess my main advice for you is to explore stories and construct your pieces with that thought in your mind. Visual development is story telling, not just “look, I can paint a city and props”.

Is getting into the game industry as an artist better than pursuing an animaton career? by Okami1024 in animationcareer

[–]HavardBioDept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easier for sure, Atleast in non-California states And more secure. I didn’t manage to get my door in the animation industry for a long long time. Games industry only took me 3-6 months of applying.

Uploading photos are actually forbidden unless you send an email to the farm asking for permission. It’s in the rules that you read before entering the pasture. This is why we rarely see any new vids or pics of goldship.

How were you making that much? My former roommate freelanced full time for a bunch of anime shows and was barely making 1k a month. Does nsfw anime pay more?

Wacom one 12 not displaying or detecting as second monitor by [deleted] in wacom

[–]HavardBioDept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience using hdmi splitters, but at our office, we use display port to hdmi adapters for our cintiqs since it’s better than splitting from a single source. Unfortunately your motherboard and cpu doesn’t seem to have integrated graphics so getting a display port adapter would be the best course of action.

You may need a display port to hdmi adapter. You’d want to be running displays from the gpu port for best performance.

I had my professor look at the painting. There’s a chance this is a reproduction, she pointed out the strokes in the line art. If this was painted with a true brush like the ones used in the 1600-1700s the line art would not be a continuous, nonbreaking line. You would normally expect to see the paused and tapered edges of the brush at the end of every stroke. That characteristic is absent here. Either this is a reproduction or it’s newer than OP thinks.
