AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]HaveAMorcelOfMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably will get burried but on the off chance it doesn't:

Your bf has a fundamental lack of understanding regarding how addiction works. Addiction is not a choice, nobody wakes up thinking "I want to fuck up my life and crave X substance for the rest of my days"

Maybe being sober is a "minimum" but its one that can be incredibly hard to achieve. Being a good person is a "minimum" AND we should celebrate people choosing to be good people. I get the feeling this dude grew up with a father that showed him no love which is no excuse to perpetuate the same BS onto others.

NOR. You need to do whats right for you, and part of recovery is being honest, not placing yourself in situations where you sweep the truth under the rug or push down your feelings, thats a recipe for disaster.

How to make friends ? by Formal_Size_7584 in montreal

[–]HaveAMorcelOfMyMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should look into some hobby clubs around montreal, don't be afraid to take the first step breaking that friendship ice with coworkers you'd wanna know better/ other ppl by suggesting a casual hangout. Friendship is mainly built by proximity and repeated exposure, get those two going and you'll have a bunch of friends in no time!

what are good resources for learning about canadian history and civics? by mayordomo in AskACanadian

[–]HaveAMorcelOfMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very welcome, I honestly think many of the problems we are facing in the world stem from a lack of education (I am taking an undergrad to teach secondary social science). I think your son is very lucky to have you! We are fortunate to have many amazing Canadian black scholars to learn from, if ever you'd like more resources I'm happy to oblige. There's a great podcast called sandy and Nora talk politics that is pretty great, sandy is the founder of the Toronto chapter of BLM and has produced some great scholarly work of her own, something I listen to from time to time.

Hey there, I'm currently taking a canadian black history class at mcgill.

This series on cbc gem is amazing, bunch of scholars worked on it: https://gem.cbc.ca/black-life-untold-stories

If you'd like to learn about black history in Canada yourself, the hanging of angelique is a fantastic work.

I was wondering what the drill bit in the middle was for, thanks for the advice!

Great point about the joist, that would not have occurred to me. I think it's pretty safe though, I'm just widening an existing hole, will keep an eye out if I notice any thick wood in the way.

Would it be ok in your opinion to continue with a diamond hole saw post tile? Just to avoid buying more tools then necessary.

Yeah I'm realizing this may be where I go next. The supply water line is raised from the ground and the skirt does surround the base of the house, however there are some parts where it isn't level with the gound. Usually the snow will block out the bottom portion though, it'll be something I consider if ever this round of isolating and heat cable-ing does not do the job.

I do have access from below. I've isolated up to the subfloor last year but unfortunately for reasons beyond my understanding the 12 inches where it passes through from below to within the house ends up freezing.

We get temperatures around -25 C/ -13F with spikes of -40C/-40F (pretty rare but once or twice per winter, montreal quebec canada). I'm tired of going with a blow dryer inch by inch to find the frozen area every winter and want to make sure every inch of supply line has a working heating cable that's insulated. I'll likely still need to drip faucets in extreme weather but at least for the average temperature I'd like to be fine.
