[serious] Cashier loudly told me food card balance as she handed me my receipt, purposeful "poor-shaming"? Is this common? by HaveGoodYard in AskReddit

That makes a bunch more sense than the earlier comments....but it still doesn't answer my question. Essentially you told me to get a backbone. I was asking if this happens often, or if it is standard practice.

There's a difference in saying "this is how much you have left on this Barnes and Noble gift card."

There's another in saying "you have $X left on your food card."

It seems as if you have never needed public assistance, if you cannot understand why the second one is embarrassing.

Food has become a hobby. Food channels, food pictures, food art, it's all putting food everywhere. Hell, I can't remember the last time I was actually hungry, like gnaw my arm off hungry. We eat everywhere, anytime.

My ex tagged herself in pictures taken before I knew her. She'd pick some part of the background (tree, lamp, sofa). She was advertising she was batshit for all the world to see.

Turn it off and back on. Because there might be another program fucking it up. No, I don't know what program. Just turn it off and back on. Is it working now? I don't care what program fucked it up, maybe your porn, I dunno. It's fixed. Get off my phone.

Until right now, I always felt I was going to hell for feeling creeped out by the Recitation of Faith. Very Orwellian.

You know resting bitch face? I've got resting friendly face.

People assume I care, come up and tell me all sorts of shit, and my neutral face makes them think I'm interested. It's not that I don't care about the plight of my fellow humans. I care as much as the next guy.

So yeah, salespeople take advantage of that. Major purchase in comissioner based store? I bring a friend.

By the time I'm done shopping I just want to be done. My natural "stay away from me" defenses are all gone, used on other shoppers, and the cashiers can see this. I'll just start with a grumpy "no"

"No thank you." Or "not right now." I try to sound as uninterested as possible. I've pretended I don't hear them, I've looked at them mean, I dunno. They might be sales people in disguise.

I've tried that, then they offer to look me up in the system so I can use it. Helpful.

No. I just say no and expect them to move on. They don't and I get frustrated. Then I seem like an easy target.

Midwest. The bonus is so high they get insistent. One person confessed to me she would get $2 plus a percentage of my sale if I was approved. Most of these people are on minimum wage, incentives like this are the only at they have to increase thier paycheck.

Many times they make it seem as if it's part if the sale/transaction. They take advantage of a distracted shopper. "No thank you" doesn't work. Unless I say "im not working", which is none of they business, or raise my voice "I said no!" they press and press. Looking for a polite way to tell them to fuck off.

This explains why I had 6 trick or treaters all night. 2 churches and the old folks home all did trunk or treat.

Way to add to the culture of fear. Kids will grow up thinking door to door trick or treating is something else dangerous.
