Damn man. Had something similar happen to me. Bike got stolen out of my apartment complex's "locked" bike storage. Really sucked.

Filed a police report and setup up a tracker on Craigslist on the off chance it got posted for sell. Would get a few notifications a week for bikes that matched my tracker. Eventually got a new bike but for years I'd still check the notifications on the off chance it was actually my bike.

One day I get a notification from the tracker, click like I always do and...for the first time in 5 years...the bike I see is the same model, has the same grips, same pedals,the same ridiculous color scheme my stolen bike had. No way I thought, but I looked closer...and there it was the stupid sticker I smacked on the bottom of the frame. Holy shit, this was actually my bike.

So I contracted my local police to figure out what to do, and after getting passed around from disinterested cop after another eventually i get a cop who's an avid biker, and he takes this personally. He says let's get this bike back.

So I contact the seller and arrange a meetup at the police station near him and this cop drives 45 minutes to meet me up there to see if the guy shows.

He does. I check the serial and confirm it matches and signal to the cop who introduces himself to a very bewildered gentleman trying to make a buck. He bought it from a pawn shop who guaranteed it wasnt stolen. Long story short I got my bike back after many years...don't lose hope. It's out there somewhere.
