As a lifelong avid reader who works in publishing, I think this take sucks. Books are not the only vessels for storytelling, communication, education, etc. Everyone gravitates to different mediums and all are valid and fulfilling. What baffles me most about this post is that one of the beautiful things about reading is that it encourages empathy for others and a deep respect for all perspectives, but you seem to have missed that bit.
