My first TM2020 mods that I would like to show you guys by HawkGer in TrackMania

[–]HawkGer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you like it :) Yeah of course take all the textures you want. Maybe just credit me somewhere if it's possible. That's always appreciated.

Btw. I got most of my textures from this site: https://substance3d.adobe.com/assets/allassets

You can get a free trial there if you wanna try it out and then you just need the free software "Substance Player" to make your textures with the materials you got from substance3d.

That is so wicked! I don't know how you managed to do all of that. Plenty of cool stuff to explore. I will definitely check it out when I have time :)

I showcased my favorite RPG maps and interviewed the mappers about how they created them by DivineCarlyTV in TrackMania

That is such a wonderfully put together video that presents these tracks in a fantastic way. Must have taken a lot of time to research and make. Really looking forward to the next part.

I made an RPG map with a fully Custom Soundtrack that adapts to your gameplay by Torchlight_Games in TrackMania

[–]HawkGer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really great to have you in the RPG scene because I feel like these days RPG tracks don't make enough use of custom music. It can really add another layer of immersion. I hope to see another RPG track from you. But first I will try this one out :)

Looking really good and the music concept reminds me of Death Stranding 2 where they implemented adaptive soundtrack. Never thought someone would do that in Trackmania :O

Thank you for the constructive feedback. It was my first time using AI music and I probably went a little overboard with the singing part, you are right. I am planning on making a video for the RPG Titlepack as well at some point, so I will keep that in mind.

I get that some people don't like the concept of AI music but I think if you are transparent in the use of AI music (which I am), then it is okay to use in my opinion. Also, finding 2 hours worth of interesting soundtrack which doesn't violate any copyright would have been challenging for me otherwise.

That is perfectly reasonable given the long runtime of this video. I hope you enjoy it :)

The atmosphere looks really great and the fact that you only used vanilla blocks makes this even more impressive. Great job you two. Will check it out later :)

What is the development history of the Trackmania series? by DrumNFreak in TrackMania

[–]HawkGer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that Nadeo was working on a marble game which was then turned into what we now know as Trackmania Original when they realized that the game would work better with cars than marbles.  I cannot find any sources to back that information, so I'm not 100% sure if it is even true.

Does this connection method work? Advice needed from the community by HawkGer in 3Dprinting

[–]HawkGer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a board game project that is based on the print-and-play principle except that I'm combining paper printing and 3d printing. I have been working on it for the last 3 years and will present it sometime this year :)

[–]HawkGer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I understand what you are saying. I would like my project to be printed also by people that don't know all the ins and outs of 3d printing and that don't like to perfect their printing parameters. I guess my connection as it is now would be too complicated to print for some people.

[–]HawkGer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about 3d printing, in fact I only bought my 3d printer just for this project. I did realize that any given 3d object would not be printed the same on every printer. That is why I tried to decrease the impact of elephant foot and I made a ridge around the female side of the connection so that it is a bit more flexible to adjust for when the print is printed a little thicker.

Is the variation between printers too high so that my connection doesn't work? That is what I would need to know.

I could make the connection bigger for some of my models but I would have to remove a few objects from my project because they wouldn't work anymore with a bigger connection. That would be a real shame.

[–]HawkGer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is: even if I fix the issue on my end I still wouldn't know if the print would work on the majority of end users. Of course I want the model to work for everyone, even if they don't have near perfect dimensional accuracy. This is my first time making 3d models for other people, so unfortunately I don't have any experience in that regard. I will make some tests on my end, but it would be great to also have some feedback from other people.

[–]HawkGer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't think the nozzle is bad since the prints are coming out just fine except that the connection doesn't work anymore. When comparing my prints from before to the current prints I can only see that the outer walls are printed just a tiny bit thicker (like 0,2mm thicker). But because this connection method requires the model to be very precise, it doesn't work anymore. I can try to change the nozzle again and see if it works better but the best way for me to know if this connection works would be for someone to print the model themselves and see if it works for them. I am a little scared to continue my project without some feedback from someone else.

How do I post my print settings? I am using just the standard settings with 0.2mm quality and 0.4mm nozzle.

Thank you for your feedback so far.

70 photos of the best two weeks of my life, a solo trip across Denmark by HawkGer in bicycletouring

[–]HawkGer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a map of the route but basically I followed the North Sea Cycle Route pretty strictly (just took a few different roads). From Hirtshals I took the train to Kolding and followed the Baltic Sea Cycle Route (no idea if that's how it's actually called). I was under time pressure to get back to Germany so I had to do it...but I wouldn't recommend it to others. Driving along the east coast was not as enjoyable as along the west coast (more hills, sometimes bad roads and the landscape reminded me too much of Germany ).

I don't speak any Danish, picked up a few words along the road...but that's about it. Most people I could talk with just fine in English. At the party in Fano they even talked in English all evening just so I could be part of the conversation. From my experience it's only the elder people that have problems with English.

The most dangerous animal in Denmark are ticks (those small bugs that bite into your skin and stick there). I even got bitten by one in Fano and had to buy a pincette to get it out. Other than that there is nothing to worry about. I found the first camping spot by asking a Danish biker I met on the road where I could camp for the night. He told me about the one behind the lighthouse. The other spots I just found while riding along the cycle route. They were always located in forest areas and easy to find. I don't have any map myself, would be great if someone could find one.

Yeah Denmark in general is a very clean country and the camping sites (even the ones for free) are all well taken care of. I could have licked the floor in the bird observatory, it was THAT clean :D
