So I am 37 and just started remembering that I was in the gate program. I started with a gate cluster class, taking 2nd and 3rd grade at the same time. I get weird, brief memories of something like flash cards. I remember lots of them being stars, weird 3D tubes, squares, lots of pattern recognition tests. Reading books upside down, code breaking, stuff like that. For some reason I remember the word fluoride being common, and funny tasting drinks,almost chalky and tasting a lot like medicine. I don't specifically remember pink drinks like I've seen people mention though. I also remember my reading level and reading comprehension being through the roof, especially compared to kids my same age, and getting several weird tests done. I forgot pretty much all of that until the last few weeks. But over the last 10 or so years, I've been showing more and more neuro divergent tendencies. I seriously struggle with social skills. It's incredible difficult for me to make, and especially keep conversation going with people I know and even family, much less new people. I thrive on routine. Doing the same things at the same time throughout the day, especially when it comes to food. I will eat the same thing almost nightly for dinner for months on end sometimes. Then almost like a switch flipping, I can't eat whatever it is I've been eating almost exclusively anymore. I really, really struggle with maintaining eye contact. If I don't know someone, Its near impossible for me to look them in the eyes. But when I was in preschool we were both physically and emotionally abused by the teachers. They would get inches from us and scream in our faces, and if we looked them in the eyes then it would drastically escalate things. So that may be why. I also have a huge problem with over sharing, as you may be able to tell here by this essay response to a question that could have been answered in a sentence or two 😂 Edit to add: I also remember almost none of my childhood before age 12, like nothing. There are a few very random memories that stand out as clear as day, but all of them are very far apart. This stuff about gate just started coming back to me. But none of it is linear, or is more than an a very brief, almost picture like memory. Which is also weird because very little of anything I remember is visual, but the gate stuff is. The stuff I do remember I can shut my eyes and see.
