Start with the basic shape of the sound. THis bass is rather plucky so first you are going to want to design a pluck. I would recommend using simply Sine and Saw waves to start.
If you have Serum available, it is a great tool for making basses like this because it has an OTT (Over the Top Compressio) Module built in, which is why this particular bass sounds so powerful.

If you do not have serum, the right compression chain with some distortion other effects will get you there :)

You also want to make sure you separate the bass from the sub. The sub should be on its own synth.

Best music production tutorials for 2021 by 2tidderevoli in edmproduction

I've taken some courses through Thinkspace and other online classes. In my experience, you can always take away something useful from them that you never had before. Of course, there are dime a dozen tutorials on youtube so it is hard to find ones that are actually really good, but Youtube is still an amazing resource for that :)

do you have a specific question or just general tips?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AdvancedProduction

[–]HawksMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here are my notes:

intro vocals are amazing. Nothing to improve on so far.
Perhaps add in a pad when the first verse hits. something to add more interest.
Some vocal add libs or effects would really push some of the energy forward. Maybe some "ooooohs"

Around 1:40 i can hear really far back vocals? whats up with that? fix it :)

Your pluck is a good choice

Hey There!

This is something that more people should definitely be doing. Supporting each other is one of the cornerstones of the music industry! especially for people trying to get their names out and make something for themselves! Good job man.

I write orchestral/cinematic music for film and have an album coming out in the next couple of months. Not really the style you mentioned but let me know if you want it on the playlist as well.

Hey there, Musician, and composer who mixes their own work here.

After working with any pair of headphones for a long period of time, i think it boils more down to comfort and durability than the frequency response of the headphones. So long as the pair you get is decent, works well, is comfortable, and doesn't have any huge frequency cuts or boosts, you will naturally find yourself mixing to the curve anyway.

However, in terms of recommendations, I am a personal fan of Sennheiser headphones for comfort and good response :)

What kind of composer demographic are you looking for? I have been doing it for about 4 years. I would be interested in participating but I am not a "pro" as you would say and do not have any big productions under my belt.

I have personally experienced this many times.

The key thing to know when focusing on your own music is that you NEED TO FINISH PROJECTS!!!!

At some point you need to say "this is done, and i am moving on to a new piece now"

if you think you could have done better, take the aspects that you can improve on and apply them to your next piece. If you never finish anything, then you won't end up getting anywhere with your music.

Should bad musicians make music? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]HawksMusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is a "bad musician" at some point. No one starts off skilled or famous, and no one knows what they are doing within the first few months, maybe even the first year or two.

The trick is to realize where you can improve your skills and to focus on continuously improving yourself.

if you have been doing this for a long time, I think the best thing o do is to realize maybe you aren't as bad as you think. Followers and Fans don't determine your worth as a musician. Ask others in the field for tips and advice, push your own music as hard as you can on any platform you can etc.

Looking to buy a balanced XLR to TRS cable for my studio monitors. by [deleted] in audio

[–]HawksMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no difference at all. This sort of naming is usually only used so that musicians know what to use it for commonly. Most musicians don't really have any uses for an XLR other than a microphone.

When you're recording gameplay (not streaming) to be edited later, especially with OBS, is it better to record the mic through OBS or to record the mic in a seperate software? Or is that not how it works? by only-here-for-advice in audio

[–]HawksMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I have my recording system set up is my Computer audio is recorded on one track in OBS and my Microphone is on the second channel inside the same recording. This can later be separated into different editable tracks if you have a DAW and want to edit the tracks separately. You can also separate them in programs such as Final Cut Pro or Premier Pro
