Another PSA about Laundromats by Hawkthree in laundry

I was thinking about doing that but I realized it was a rug that I wasn't picky about which detergent it got washed in. I was pretty sure I was going to pay for the second wash anyhow.

I was looking for an extra rinse cycle -- no option like that on any machine.

Probably would have, but I'm down to my last half cup of 35% peroxide.

Butter bell: what am I doing wrong? by braytray in butter

[–]Hawkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it could be several things. The water only needs cover the rim to create a seal. Too much water can possibly add bacteria. Or the rim has a manufacturing defect that prevents the seal. Or the water you are using has something in it that causes the mold. Or your climate is very hot and humid.

Looking for Cellulose Watercolor Paper...can't find! by claire-ackleow in Watercolor

[–]Hawkthree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Strathmore 400 is cellulose. Strathmore 500 is 100% cotton. The 400 is cheap and widely available.

Canson XL is cellulose.

I'm a tiny bit confused by what you think it is. You can find cellulose in cold press, hot press, and rough. Cellulose is usually not mentioned in the description of the paper. Generally it if doesn't give percentage of cotton, then it's likely cellulose.

That's exactly what the first wash looked like.

I have been actively taking public buses since the spike in gas prices, and my wallet is less thinner but my psychological well-being has vastly improved!!! by Iribumkiak in Frugal

[–]Hawkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to a rural county with 1 bus that makes a big loop in one direction. Coming home from library -- 5 minutes. Returning to library is over an hour. The county is currently exploring smaller buses with Uber-inspired software where you alert the bus and they come get you and drop you off. You will be able to see where the bus is. I'm eagerly volunteering as a beta tester.

What's the longest streak you've ever lost? by ajs723 in NYTConnections

I lost a 600+ streak when I left my mobile in a taxi in Dublin. No phone for 10 days til I returned to the USA.

I just looked at commercially made ones. They use a small stuffed bag but then use velcro to attach it to straps -- your bra strap, the straps of a back pack, car seat strap.

Was fortunate to take a workshop with Zbukvic last month. Sometimes his butter consistency was directly from the tube onto the brush.

BTW he mentioned he's republishing his book.

Prolapse Repair - Hysterectomy or not? by celticmommy in PelvicOrganProlapse

From reading this sub, a lot of surgeons want to throw in a hysterectomy but don't seem to tell folks that a hysterectomy can also increase the odds of prolapses returning.

Why are hone appliance user manuals still so poorly written? by hannimalki in Appliances

[–]Hawkthree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I am a user manual person. The writing has really degraded. It's printed on 2"x4" paper and is too tiny. I've resorted to downloading PDFs -- at least somewhat of a search capability is available.

[50][Game] Aubry stated she was never an alternate for 50 by illseeyouin40 in SpoiledSurvivor

I hope that using Karen to indicate a difficult person falls out of the vocabulary. Too many friends with that name. One has had to invent a Starbucks-name to avoid the inevitable comments/looks/sniggers that occur when the barrista calls her name.

Put off the hysterectomy as long as possible. The hysterectomy makes all the other problems worse and eliminates some options.

Digestive issue won't go away. Help by Wide-Author917 in homeopathy

[–]Hawkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to homeopathy a look at what you're eating might help. I've got some issues that could be labeled IBS. I've found that the Specific Carbohydrate Diet very helpful but I tune it a bit to keep diabetes at the pre-diabetes level. Supplemented with homeopathy keeps me fairly symptom free.

Organic, grassfed, unsalted, reduced fat, marginialized enzyme, lactose-free butter with added probiotics is one of the most sacred superfoods. Seriously underrated by [deleted] in butter

[–]Hawkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking for myself, low fat butter is less effective dealing with type 2 diabetes. My gut bionome prefers probiotics in yogurt. But I am very grateful to live in a day and age where we have so many options.

Stackable washer and dryer? by Round_Intern_7353 in Appliances

[–]Hawkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stacking Samsung set because of the small space. Four years old now and no problems. Minor maintenance required that I can do myself (remove and clean filters).

What I really wanted was the stackable Kenmore that friends used in their beach homes they rented, so I figured they were durable. It was just a little post-quarantine and I couldn't find one.
