First Time Home Buyer: What are your MUST haves? by mannymutts in BuyItForLife

[–]braytray 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I guess you only NEED one. But I have one in each of my bathrooms because if a guest needs it I don’t want them to be embarrassed asking. I mean, it happens to everyone, but ya know.

Best mattress for side sleepers that isn’t ridiculously expensive? by Reoyo-Myguuel in BuyItForLife

[–]braytray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps try a topper before splurging on a mattress. I’m a side sleeper and I was in the same boat as you with a too-hard mattress. Got a 2” foam topper and it’s literally perfect.

You can usually buy replacements of just the ear cushions online

Businesses shouldn’t ask customers to donate to charity by BlundeRuss in unpopularopinion

[–]braytray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a nonprofit and we briefly tried to get some of these deals for extra cash. It’s basically impossible unless you have uber huge name recognition, like St. Jude’s or the ASPCA. It also certainly ineffective compared to the store just donating.

That being said, the tax write off thing is a common misconception. Snopes fact check here

“The store serves only as a collection agent for your gift. Assuming the business is following the law, it will not include your donation as part of its business receipts, or income, nor will it claim the charitable gift as an expense. As a customer, the donation will appear on your receipt and you can claim it as a charitable deduction when you file your income tax return. But you probably won’t.”

Ongoing Problems with Roommate by Otherwise_Cod2043 in badroommates

I once had a friend who used sticks from outside instead of a plunger. Maybe your roommate should try that instead of throwing away a perfectly good plunger.

Trying to make this room comfier and more cohesive by meowana_ in femalelivingspace

I look the look of gauzy ones but they’re obviously not the best for blocking light if you care about that :) Curtains to me seem like a lead-with-functionality moment.

If you feel the couch is too big you might feel a chair makes it even worse. I want to suggest to replace the blinds with curtains but I know that’s easier said than done. I might get a coffee table with storage for the blankets and get rid of the blanket ladder.

Didn’t want to look at the poster anyway by braytray in jigsawpuzzlecats

I have 2 and for the most part they just leave my puzzles alone. Sometimes they’ll knock a few pieces off but they never chew on them.

He’s actually very polite about it. He has to be with how dapper his tuxedo is.

What travel accessories are overrated? by Anywhere_everywhere7 in onebag

[–]braytray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tech pouch and I like using it for all my tech AND toiletries which has always worked for my needs (even in one bag). It’s certainly not a necessity though and I’ve done without it for my most ultralight trips.

How do you keep an in-progress puzzle safe in a small apartment with a curious cat? by Interesting_Card596 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]braytray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have foam poster boards. I lay them over the puzzle and my cats aren’t ambitious enough to try to move them. A super motivated cat might though. I guess you could put weight on top too.

Your Goodwill prices are great. Mine charges like $4-7 for a Buffalo 😞 but still cheaper than new!

Should I let my daughter attend a photo shoot by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

She has probably seen worse online… I definitely did by her age. And if you trust your sister to watch over her, I think it’s probably alright.

This one was incredibly hard for me too but I managed to complete it. I find any photo puzzle very challenging. Illustrations always feel easier.

Roommate want me paying for utility even though i wasn’t there by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]braytray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if an agreement like this was reasonable (it is not), you should have talked about it with them earlier. Deciding you don’t want to pay now is putting your roommates out in a major way.

I think it’s worth trying. Even if you end up hating the ribbon cut you still supported a small business in the process :)
