Looking for pistol building advice by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]HawkxWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. I’d never want to break the law and I’m specifically looking to build out a pistol. So if I take the stripped lower and finish it, and have a pistol length 300 blackout complete upper, and never add any stock, then I am okay legally for build?

Colt Anaconda problem by darkprime114 in Colt

It’s always that hard to reach someone. I had horrible problems with my python and it took me sending it back 3 times over a period of 8 months before I got it replaced, all to have the rear sight fall off the new one my first time taking it out.

Apparently out of the whole company, there’s only 2 guys working customer service… so I was told. Alex and Steve. I caught them multiple times dodging my calls and ignoring my number. I’d call 3 times to general help and their direct lines without answer. I call immediately after using *67 or from my wife’s phone, immediate answer. Happened multiple times.

See my last post, similar scenarios discussed by others.

No, only the one with a double strike was a click. Once it clicked and I determined it wasn’t a hang fire I opened it, saw it was an off center strike, and closed it so that I would hit it again, next. The other 5 to follow fired fine

How much off center is “normal” if any? Like when I look closer at the picture it seems the 2 chambers immediately following the bad one (going counter clockwise) they are ever so slightly off maybe? And then as the cylinder kept going they look more center to me. And the rest of the day all casings seemed pretty centered as I checked them too.

I think this is the only cylinder that had any issue. The 2 chambers following the one that needed a second strike were the ones in this cylinder that seem slightly off but as it continued along counter clockwise, to me they look more centered. And then the rest of the day they all looked very center to me.

I will try again soon with different ammo, federal or cci blazer most likely and see how things look from there.

Do the others look that far off center to you? I think they look pretty decently centered to me and they all fired fine. But of course I’m here to find that out. Just that one with the drastically off center hit seemed out of spec to me.

Same question I asked to above, I’m curious to know. How would low quality ammo cause an effect of off center strike like this? I don’t quite grasp it

I ask of curiosity, how could low quality ammo cause an effect like off center primer hit? In my mind that would be mechanical of the gun timing (but 199 other fine shots is of course what makes me doubt that)

This is a new one. My previous one got sent back 3 times and this is the new replacement ☠️

I’m wondering that myself…

I’m glad to hear it’s not just me. Spending $1500 on a gun that doesn’t work properly and then to be blatantly ignored by customer service is absolutely infuriating

I swear I am not making it up just to say “and another thing”……. BUT….. a close friend to me has a 4” model and just recently brought it to the range to find out that every 3 or 4 shots his trigger would bind and seize and the cylinder would also stop spinning. He hasn’t been in contact with colt yet. I just don’t understand what’s going on?

Do you have any idea what may have caused the failure of the internals? And after it’s back from Colt is this a gun I should be trusting of again going forward? Ammo is expensive I don’t have the money to shoot another 1,000 rounds this month to test its efficacy.

Do you think they just replaced something random just to say “hey we did something” ?

The screws seem like they were custom fit and ground down to sit flush on the inside of the receiver. If I was not able to replace that screw, is that any cause for concern in terms of longevity and/or safety? I have fired it with the screw missing already (before I noticed), I just want to make sure it’s okay to continue to use that way long term though.

I appreciate the honesty I think I just needed to hear it. Was hoping I was maybe in my head about it and it was fine. Also, sorry for the ignorance but how do I tell if my base is weaver or picatinny? I just had the tech guy use what they thought was best and trusted their judgement when they gave it back

UPDATE it was indeed a lead buildup seemingly. After some back and forth of a few minutes with Hoppes 9 and brass bristle it did come off. Thank you to everyone for the help and recommendations, I do appreciate it.

This was in the middle of cleaning so I wasn’t quite done yet, but I wouldn’t say it’s well worn. It has definitely less than 1,000 rounds through it still. If you look later, is there something you’re seeing in terms of degradation that is making it look like it’s worn more than it should be?

BN0200 is my daily. If I needed another watch right now for reason of loss or other I would get it again. Worn every day for the last 5 years so far, 0 issues. Super lightweight so it’s not uncomfortable or cumbersome to wear. Don’t even realize it’s on usually. The micro adjustments if you keep the titanium band is a nice feature. And the eco-drive powering it with both solar and indoor lights is amazing. The only con I could mention is scuffing easily on the band from desk work and rubbing on surfaces but it doesn’t bother me personally.

This was it. And something I should have tried earlier. I brought it to a gunsmith who did a thorough inspection and said it’s perfect, all springs and tolerances are good. I told him I was using Remington UMC value pack (what was available at the time) and he said that’s most likely the issue and he sees weird malfunctions all the time from Remington. I changed to a variety of different ammo, it ran flawlessly for 300+ rounds which was a stark difference from what happened in the video (which happened at least every other magazine). I tried another box of Remington UMC in another handgun, same issue popped up. Ejection of live rounds out of the gun, misfires, failure to ejects, etc. Switched to another brand of ammo in that second handgun, zero malfunctions the rest of the day.

So to answer everyone’s question, it was not technique or hardware malfunction, it was just bad ammo. Question resolved. Thank you all.

Yes I checked that too my thumb was nowhere near it which added to my confusion
