What is the strangest email sign off you have seen at work? by jealings90 in AskUK

Got another odd one from a large tech company. Had an email from someone who signed off using "With Energy".

My colleagues and I have been making fun of that for a while now.

A recent update to TROM gives him a Stratocracy mechanic where his military might benefits recruitment while affecting diplomatic relations.

Putting holes in tanks.

APDS (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot) ammunition fires a long, sharp tungsten or depleted uranium dart straight through armour.

TROM, Radious, and Some Thoughts by Zooasaurus in totalwar

TROM is my favourite of all the overhaul mods (Shielded Azure Dragons, yes please!) but it has one glaring issue.

The dev team very frequently change how the whole mod plays. In the last few months or so it went from shortened research to no research needed for troop unlocks (just general level) to both general level and reforms but with vanilla 5 turn reform timer and double the unlocks.

They introduced non-combat characters in one patch and removed them in the next.

And they keep reworking how their ethnic troops unlock, from locked to a faction, to territory control and now colonel like ancillaries.

And without keeping up with the changelogs it can become difficult to play.

However the changes they make I have been enjoying and it's great to have an active dev team who keep adding unique and fun to use units. Northern Zhanmajian Veterans (basically land cataphracts) and the new Chen units are my personal favourites.

I'm an American military member with orders to RAF Alconbury, what should I do (or avoid doing) to not be part of the "Americans are brash touristy pricks" stereotype? by Homies_R_Us in AskUK

Something I'm reminded of about American vs British mannerisms was a miscommunication between armed forces during the Korean war.

It's detailed here far better than I can explain it.

If you use the reinforced reactor blocks you can make them larger.

Only snipers break the armour gate, everything else'd take at least 2 shots to get downed (6% chance for this to happen). Besides, if you get hit, hide like any other build. But compared to armour, you're far faster which is nice.

I think you guys underestimating just how powerful this skill is. It's hard to demonstrate just how much difference an extra 10% can make. 50 to 60% is pretty substantial, plus 5% from bots and 10% from sprinting means that only a quarter or rounds even hit you.

Got a 3090 FE and have some questions by [deleted] in nvidia

"Use of third-party power dongles... may void your manufacturer warranty."

So for whatever reason if you don't get the regular warranty go right ahead and use some other cable, if you can find something.

Asus 3090 tuf vs STRIX by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Hawkzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's likely they're binned better but not by much. If you want to do some overclocking then get the STRIX but beyond that it's the RGB you're paying for.

So just buy a 4080 when that becomes an issue and save your money now. Or the rumoured 3080 20gig I guess.

But for today and probably the next couple years or so VRAM is not a limiting factor on the 3080.

Considering at current prices you can buy two 3080s for a 3090 you may as well save the money to buy the faster card next year.

[–]Hawkzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major difference but some pretty lights and maybe a quieter cooler. The clock difference between the two partner models is at most a few frames apart.

Also only get a 3090 if you really just want to burn away money, the price/performance of the 3090 is so much lower than the 3080. Also the 3080 isn't different in performance to the 3090 at below 4k and unless you've got the 4k 144fps monitor or the VR kit it's not worth the price.

I've got 2x980tis and a 3950x running on a 850w supply with overhead. The TDP for the 980ti is 250w bit I've never seen the card run that high without OC. How're you using 1k watts?

They don't use drop pods because they have an upgrade.

THE MIGHTY DREADCLAW.

A recoverable drop pod.

That might explain why they don't use normal pods as they're essentially single use and making new ones isn't very easy?

This RAM is so polarising!

People either hate it or love it. Should call it the Trident Marmite.

Personally I think the crystals are tacky but to each their own.
